It's just moments before Twenty One Pilots third show, Tyler was bouncing on his toes excited to receive the audience's feedback. Josh was bent over at the waist, hands on his knees and eyes closed as he took deep breaths. Tyler noticed Josh over to the side and made his way to him.
Tyler laid a hand on Josh's slightly clammy shoulder, "It'll be okay, Josh. You're the best drummer I know. And I'll be right there alongside you."
From the stage the boys could hear their band being announced. Josh straightened up, looked at Tyler who gave a reassuring nod and then walked out onto the stage behind Tyler.
Tyler gripped the microphone, "Hey, my name's Tyler and on those drums there is my best friend, Josh. We're Twenty One Pilots and we hope you have a good time tonight!"
They started with their most pumped-up song just to get everyone's attention and to perk their interest. They put their all into, just like they would every song for the next half hour.
"I gotta be honest with you all, that was probably the most pumped up song we have for tonight but we promise more great music if you stick with us," Tyler spoke excitedly into the mic, "This next song is titled Fall Away, I wrote it just a couple of days ago but we're confident in it!"
Tyler played the rain and the stars, the lights flashed between red, yellow and blue. Tyler closed his eyes, stomped his foot and let the music lead. He raised his voice to that same almost-scream when the feeling called and let the words fly from his tongue and lip when the moment felt right. Josh bounced slightly behind the kit. Tyler bent far over his keyboard and played like no tomorrow whenever he wasn't singing. At the end, the crowed cheered and clapped. Josh relaxed just a bit more, Tyler felt a stronger sense of pride in his music than he had even at their last show.
At the end of the night, Tyler and Josh both were more sweat than they were boy. They finished with smiles and more confidence than ever before. Behind the stage they hugged. Josh was relieved that they did well. Tyler was glad to be alive that night.
