It took me a second, but once I realized what Glitch said, I turned invisible. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Why couldn't Gust just take my shoes instead?
At least Marie doesn't know my name. Oh. That's right. I shot Charlie a look since he used my name just moments ago.
Coal Black, you are an idiot. Sending Charlie the evil eye and expecting him to react is really pointless, I seem to have forgotten I'm invisible.
"Here," Charlie said, pulling an extra mask from up his sleeve, literally.
While I was extremely curious why he has an extra mask with him, I wasn't about to question him. I grabbed the green mask and slipped it on, turning visible again and sending him that evil eye.
"Is there somewhere I can take you?" Smokey asked Marie, kneeling down to her level.
Marie seemed to have broken out of whatever trance she was in and began shaking. Her frazzled hair and wide eyes was almost comical if she hadn't been staring right at me. "A-are you-u going t-to kill m-me?"
Before I could either confirm or deny, her eyes fluttered shut, and she slumped against the wall. Her frantic breathing slowed down, and her chest heaved up and down at a slower rate.
Smokey turned around with a guilty face. "I had to knock her out. She was about to go into shock."
"So, what do we do with her? Do we just leave her here?" Charlie asked, taking a step back and looking like he wanted to take off.
"No, Gust may come back to finish his job," I said. "Besides, she looks hurt. We should take her to the hospital."
Glitch groaned but bent down and scooped her limp body in his arms. I couldn't help but notice how pale she looked, how completely helpless she was.
"Would they even be able to protect her against any villains?" Glitch asked, looking up at me with a frown.
"Good question."
So guess where we're now taking the reporter who's trying to single-handedly expose our identities? Yup. HQ.
I know what you're thinking. Coal, you idiot, why didn't you just take her to the hospital? Well, you see, the truth is that... I don't know. It was a moment of rash decisions, and what Charlie suggested just seemed to make sense since non-super protection isn't enough.
Where are we? At The Board of Heroes and Villains. In the medical ward to be specific. This time, Smokey's hovering was replaced with Doctor Daniels, a kind woman with x-ray vision, let's just say she came in handy a lot.
With Doctor Daniels being obsessed with her first non-super patient, I started backing out of the room slowly, hoping no one would hear me leave. Except Doctor Daniels, without even turning around, started scolding me.
"Flaming Spark, you are not going anywhere. Sit down on a bed, and I'll get to you in a second."
I gritted my teeth. "It's fine. I'm fine. I got things I need to do." Though my throbbing wrist told me otherwise. I was far from fine, and while I knew I'd need someone to look at my wrist eventually, I didn't want her to touch it and make it worse. I wasn't exactly in the mood to deal with more pain.
Doctor Daniels turned around and steeled me with a pair of stern blue eyes. "Sit."
Squaring my shoulders, I raised my eyebrows and resisted the urge to stick my tongue out. You outgrew that phase, Coal. "No." I turned sharply on my heel and stalked out of the medical ward. That was almost too easy. There has to be a catch.
