Hey, so this was the original epilogue I had but I decided against it about one fourth into book three. It was throwing off the pacing and confusing both me and the readers.
Not having the heart to delete it and lose all the wonderful comments in here, I've decided to move it to the deleted scene section XD
When I opened my eyes, the room was dark, just drowned out light barely coming through the curtained window. I grabbed my glasses and put them on, peeking out the window slightly and feeling my eyes widen when I saw that everything was covered in snow.
My breath fogged up the glass, causing me to frown and wipe it away so I could watch the snow fall silently. It was so beautiful. Yet, I'm glad I'm just visiting and that I don't live here.
A body stirred next to mine, making me pull back from the window and sink back deep into the covers, hoping they wouldn't wake up by my movements. But I was stuck in an awkward position, wide awake and all I wanted to do was go play in the snow, and I don't care how immature that is.
I bit my lip and tried to calm myself down enough to fall back asleep.
Think calming, slow thoughts... Sheep jumping over a fence for no good reason, I didn't even know that sheep could jump that high. Poor shepherd is going to have a blast getting them all back. Why do they even want to go over the fence?
Yeah okay, so I'm wide awake. I slipped out of bed as quietly as I could, hoping I wouldn't wake up the three bodies crammed into the Queen-sized guest bed.
I was about to tiptoe away and congratulate myself at a successful extraction when there was the sound of a tiny person yawning and sitting up suddenly.
"Daddy?" She whispered. "Did it snow? Are you going outside?"
I turned around slowly and grinned at my little daughter. "Want to go outside with me, Sasha?"
She nodded her head vigorously, her messy blonde hair sticking up in all directions in her excitement.
"Quietly," I whispered, reaching out and picking her up. "We don't want to wake your mom and brother."
Sasha scrunched up her nose and giggled. "They like to sleep in!"
I set her on my shoulders and grabbed her jacket and boots, tiptoeing out of the guest room and to the front door, hoping no one would realize the drop in temperature when I left. I glanced over at the fireplace and noticed that the log dad had put in last night never caught on fire, I winked at it and grinned when the embers took off and started burning the log.
When we walked outside, I set Sasha on the ground and helped the little seven-year-old pull on her jacket and boots. "Okay, go play," I said, patting her on her head and watching as she took off and jumped into the snow that came up to her knees.
Currently, we were the only ones outside, everyone else in the neighborhood was in their homes, smoke snaking lazily out of their chimneys. It was so peaceful, except for Sasha's squeals and me yelling that the tickle monster was coming after her, that is. When she got bored with that, or when I was out of breath and rubbing the stitch on my side because running in snow is not easy, we made a snow family in the front yard, Sasha taking the time to put in immense amounts of details.
