Coal's P.O.V, an hour earlier:

Previously:

There was maniacal laughing behind me that stopped me dead in my tracks, and that's when I noticed I was completely visible. Shamboppindizzle.

"Well, so nice of you to join the party, Coal Black. Or should I say, Headphones."

I turned around to face the head of the S.A.V.D. and sighed loudly so she could hear me. "Hello, Caroline Matthews, long time no see." I frowned and looked around the hallway, spinning in a full circle, my confusion growing as I tried to find out what was going on.

"You didn't think I'd let you find us so easily, did you?" She asked, her voice was so clear it was like she was standing right in front of me but I was completely alone.

"Where are you?" I asked, feeling slightly silly for talking to no one and frustrated that I couldn't find where her voice was coming from.

"Hidden speakers in the walls," she said, and then it sounded as if she was yawning. "Now hurry up and find us because I'm getting bored of waiting."

"Don't do it, Coal! Get away!" Molly. That was Molly yelling in the background. They really do have her.

"Shut her up!" Caroline yelled, but then there was the audible sound of an intercom clicking off.

"If you told me where you are, I'd be able to get there already!" I screamed, kicking the wall and pulling at my hair in frustration. They had Molly, and who knows what they were going to do to her, or how frightened she is or - I fell to my knees, closing my eyes and gasping for breath.

I tried forcing myself to think straight, but all I could think about was her. If they dare hurt her, I will make them wish they were never born; I will make them wish they never crossed paths with me. I snapped my eyes open, a strange determination sweeping over me as the plan Ben and I had worked on all night came back to me.

"I still think it was stupid what you did," Ben said, rubbing his eyes and looking far more stressed than I was.

I sighed and shrugged. "If I didn't tell Marie to reveal my identity when she did, then she would still have that as a bargaining chip, and she'd still be getting in the way. It's easier with this whole identity thing being out of the way."

"We could have made her sign a paper promising to never reveal your identity, we could have put her on a payroll as our spokesperson and control what she reported on," Ben said, crossing his arms and giving me a look.

"It's over now, so who cares? It's yesterday's news. No one cares about my identity anymore. What's important now is taking the S.A.V.D. down. You said they were working up the lines to get to me? Why don't they just take me now?"

Ben drummed his fingers on the desk. "Because none of their equipment is strong enough to contain you. They can't force you to stay, you can overpower them easily, so they are going to try to make you want to stay."

"Why do they even want me?" I asked.

"If they can harness your power, then they can make essentially anything they want."

I blew my unkempt hair out of my face. "Okay, so what's the plan? How are we going to take them down?"
