The past. Filled with fears, mistakes, and many heartbreaks.
The past was my own personal fear; my motivation to never make the same mistakes EVER again.

As soon as we got back to the Cullen house, I was taken into the living room, where everyone was seated.
"Well, what a fancy seeing you all here," I joked, trying to get rid of my nerves.
I wasn't surprised when no one found it funny, or when Rosalie shoved me down into a seat, and standing behind me. I was terrified, worried when that as soon as this family found out about my past that they would never think the same about me.
"We both know that isn't true. We love you, and nothing can change that." Edward said seriously.
"You may think that now, but you won't later. Just know that I care for all of you deeply."
I looked around at the group in front of me, before starting.
"130 years ago, I woke up alone in a small town in Texas. I knew I wasn't human, and when the bloodlust kicked in I understood that I was a vampire. I was anger and incredibly thirsty, so I drained the whole town. I left no survivors," I paused grimacing along with the others, "Though I didn't stop there. I continued across the state and into others. A wide spread killing spree. Until the Volturi caught wind of what I was doing. They approached me with all intentions of killing me, until they realized I had a gift; one they had never seen. I can detect, reflect, deflect any power used against me," I giggled at the rhyme and Rosalie smacked my arm.
"Keep talking," she growled.
"My power truly meaning that I could mimic any power that could be used against them, and know exactly when it was being used. So, they took me as one of they're own, and I enjoyed it. I enjoyed going and taking care of the vampires that acted up. I enjoyed drinking human blood. I enjoyed everything about they're life style. Until one day, there was a vampire we were set to kill who didn't have red eyes like us, he had gold and quickly described his life off of animal blood in attempt to save himself. It was curious to me, I wondered what it would be like for a long time. Aro noticed it in my thoughts, and allowed me to go free. To explore at my own will," I sighed thinking back to being free, "Despite knowing that I do have the Volturi as a connection I was always scared. Scared that one vampire would remember and hold grudges against what I had done to the ones around them. So I ran away from everyone; like I tried to tonight. I ran from a coven in Denali after they had offered me shelter. I run to keep people safe. I run to keep people away from my horrid past. I run so I don't have to pretend I don't want to drain every human I'm near," I sighed finally finished going over my past. I looked around at the faces of the people surrounding me, trying to figure out what they were feeling. I was just hoping they would say anything; anything but this painful silence.
"Anything," Edward said trying to bother me.
Esme hit him on the back of the head before turning to me, "Adeline, we still love you. Despite your past, and I do hope you stay with us. Though if you do choose we won't stop you if you leave."
-
I sat with Jasper later that same night, he hadn't let me out of his eye sight since I explained my past.
"I'm sorry I tried to run. I know it was inconsiderate of me," I finally broke the silence between us.
"No don't apologize. I understand how you felt. You just wanted to protect me, but I do have to tell you that my job ma'am. I promise to spend the rest of our time together making sure you're protected."
I stared into his eyes, "What did I ever do to deserve you?"
Jasper looked surprised at my statement, pausing before speaking. "You said wrongly ma'am. It's what have I done to deserve you."
I resized in that moment what Alice had seen in her vision; Jasper was in fact my mate, and I love him.
"Took you long enough!" Edward's outburst caused me to jump.
"Rose where's my money?" Emmett spoke laughing.
I walked down stairs with Jasper trailing behind me, "Were you betting on how long it took me to realize I love Jasper, or until Edward scared me?"
I then froze, realizing I had just admitted my feelings for Jasper. I turned around to face him, being met with a face of pure happiness.
"I love you Jasper Hale," I whispered quietly to him.
"And I love you too, Adeline," he spoke just as softly before kissing me slowly.
We were soon interrupted by Emmett's booming laugh and him clapping rather obnoxiously. As we pulled away, Jasper and I both faced Emmett wondering why he was so annoying.
"Oh Adeline, to answer your question, we were betting on both. They just happened to occur at the same time."
"Brother, are you sure you know what the word occur means?" Jasper asked laughing at Emmett, "It's a big boy word."
I laughed along with Edward and Rose, as Jasper and Emmett went running out of the house; one being chased by the other.
**
So I'm going to explain Adeline's power a better than I did in the chapter! So part of Adeline's power is that she knows when a power is being used on/against her; like Jasper or Edwards power (detect). The second part of her power is that she can be sort of like a mirror, meaning she can turn the power against another person (reflect). Example: Making Jasper calm.
The last part, is that she is a shield (deflect). I hope this clears any confusion.
