"YOUR FUTURE WITH THE WHAT?!!" I heard Edward scream from another room in the house. I forgot that we live with such nosy people, even when they're having their own conversations, they are always listening.
"Well I guess it's time for a family meeting in the living room," I said with a sad smile.
-
Around thirty minutes later, the whole family was seated in the living room. We had to wait for Emmett, and Rosalie to get back from a hunting trip, and I refused to say anything more until Rose was at my side.
"Well fancy seeing all you here." I have a tendency to make jokes when I get nervous.
When no one laughed at my joke, I stopped to look around at my family. They all had different faces, but each one spoke of worry and concern. I knew each one was worried both about my future with the Volturi and with their own. I looked at Edward last, making full eye contact before letting my shield down just for him; allowing him to see what I had seen. We all heard him gasp as I thought of the vision and of my conversation with Rose.
"Adeline." He stopped after saying only my name.
"Well I guess I should share with everyone what now Edward, Rosalie and I all know. I had a vision not long ago; a vision of my future."
"Your future with the Volturi? I don't understand how they are in your future," Esme asked in her calm soft voice.
"There were terms to my release from the Volturi; terms I did not openly tell all of you." I looked at Carlisle before stating, "I was not allowed to simply freely leave like Carlisle was able to. My gift was far too unique and valuable to them." If I had the ability to cry, I would have been sobbing by this point in my speech.
"Adeline," Rose said calmly laying a hand on my shoulder, "They understand that this is hard. No one will blame you for needing a moment."
"I'm fine. I actually have a much better way of saying all this. I will just show you."
After saying this, I used a power I had copied from a member of the Amazon coven; visual projection.
-
"Adeline," Jane said while walking into my chambers, "Aro is requesting your service in the thrown room."
"Of course, I will be right there."
I stood up from my writing desk and grabbed my cloak, draping it around my shoulders. I did not waste time as I ran through the halls and stopped at the door of the throne room. I dusted myself off and made sure I looked perfect before entering the room.
"Adeline, darling! I am so glad you came so quick at my request."
"Why of course Aro, I would never want to keep you waiting," I said while walking towards my normal place next to Caius, he grabbed my hand as I stood next to him. "May I ask why you needed me at such a dire time? I had thought I had a few more hours to write before my time to return to stand among you all, though it is an honor to stand by you at any time." I bowed my head slightly while asking my question, before standing straight up and facing out towards the doors.
"My dear, we wanted to speak to you about where your thoughts have been venturing to," Caius said from at my side.
"Please stand in front of us all, even with my vampire eyesight I can not see you very well when you hide behind Caius's thrown," Marcus said with a laugh.
"Of course," I said with a smile before moving to stand before the three.
"Adeline, we know you have been thinking about the life beyond these walls. Ever since you went on the mission to kill the vampire with golden eyes, your thoughts have been wandering to that life style."
"I hope my thoughts do not offend."
"They do not," Aro assured me, "Though we are curious as to why you are interested by that man's life."
"I was not aware there was any of life style than our own. I have become curious on how these type of vampires live without the blood of a human. It bewilders me."
"We are well aware you have not seen much of the outside world."
"You have only seen the cities you tore through during your blood lust, and our lovely Volterra," Caius said finishing Marcus's sentence.
"We have decided that we are willing to allow you to leave Volterra, in order to explore the world and any lifestyle you choose."
"Thank you, for that is so kind-" I was cut off as Aro continued.
"BUT there will come a day when we will request you return to our side, and you must. If you refuse we will not hesitate to kill you. We have already allowed one vampire to walk out freely."
"Though he did not have a power as precious as yours il mio amore," Caius added on.
"As long as you agree to return to our side whenever we request, Adeline you are free to leave. Do you accept our terms?"
"Yes, I do," I bowed my head once again at the three of the men sitting in front of me.
"Until we meet again, dear Adeline."
With once last kiss on the hand from Aro, I was free to leave the thrown room and Volterra.
-
As my memory came to it's end, I looked around at the people seated among me. Once again their faces were filled with concern and pure worry.
"My vision showed me back with the Volturi. Seated next to Caius, as if I was an equal to the the three; a leader. Red eyes, cloak and the Volturi crest placed in full display on my chest instead of on my wrist as it is now," I paused holding up my bracelet with the Volturi crest as it's only charm, before continuing, "I know you all have a million thoughts and questions, but please do not hate me for what I did not share. I had hoped I would have to return for a very long time, though it now seem to be in the distant future."
"You were so lucky Carlisle," I said softly, "I wish I could have had a bit of your luck instead of a gift."
"Adeline," Esme started before stopping as Jasper stood up.
I felt anger coming off of him as he stood on the opposite side of the living room.
"I can not believe you," Jasper said quietly.
"Jasper don't," Alice spoke directly to him.
"You are a liar. You told all of us. You told ME that the Volturi was your past! You allowed me to fall in love with you and you knew it wouldn't be forever!" Jasper was now yelling, a volume no one had ever heard him reach before.
"Jasper please. You don't understand."
"What do I not understand Adeline," He said bitterly, "You lied to me."
"Jasper," Rose said with almost the same level of anger, "You need to calm down and watch what you are saying to her."
"How dare you. Don't try to defend her. She lied to you too Rosalie. She will leave me, you, all of us!"
At this point I felt trapped, I wasn't sure what to say or do. I felt Esme place a hand on my arm for comfort.
"Jasper," I said softly as I walked towards him, "Please calm down and listen to what I have to say." I grabbed his hand hoping he'd calm down.
"Don't touch me Adeline," he said while ripping his hand out of mine. "Don't touch me. Don't talk to me. You need to leave."
I was taken back by this statement.
"Jasper that is not your decision to make," Carlisle said sternly, "Adeline is our family."
"It's me or her, make your decision."
"That is not needed," I said calmly, "I understand that I am not wanted. I will leave."
"Adeline, stop."
"No Rose, I said I would only stay if I wanted and I am not. Thank you for all of your hospitality, I will never forgot you all."
With that I was gone.
***
Please don't kill me. I know this was pretty harsh from Jasper, but it's just how it happened. I had planned for this to go differently and end semi happy buuuuuuut it didn't.
I love you all! I swear!!
