In what had seemed to be a blink of an eye, the school year was almost completely over, with only a few short weeks left to go. My family and I were excited to have this year over with, waiting to be able to enjoy our lives instead of sitting at school.
"We're almost done Jaz," I spoke as we headed to school, "Summer is just so close, and then we'll be human free."
"Well, about that, we may not be." Alice spoke carefully from the front seat.
Jasper and I had choose to ride with her and Edward this morning, per her request.
"I saw someone, Edward's mate to be exact. She's, well, she's human."
I sighed sinking back into my seat. Why must the world be so complicated? Why do humans have to be so darn close to us?
"At least your mate isn't human," Edward growled at me.
"No hun," I growled back, "my mate isn't human, but your mate is. She already posed a threat to our family and you haven't even met her yet."
Edward didn't respond, knowing I was right.
As soon as we got to school I quickly got away from Edward, angry that he would soon make our lives so very complicated. I walked up to Rose and told her what had happened in the car ride. As soon as I was done, I knew Rose was just as angry as I was, and so we avoided Edward together.
-
Lunch, that's when we all saw her for the first time. As we walked into the lunch room, I could feel her eyes on us, she was the only one who was staring, as everyone else had gotten used to us walking in late.
"Who are they?" I immediately tuned my hearing in the conversation.
"Well first there are the Cullen's. The big one is Emmett, the one who looks like a pixie is Alice, the red haired one is Edward, and the girl next to him is Adeline. The blondes are the Hales, Rosalie and Jasper."
I smiled up at Jasper, knowing he was listening as well.
"But they're like all together. Emmett and Rosalie are thing, and so are Jasper and Adeline."
"Jessica they're not related, you know that right?"
"Yeah, but they live together. The Cullen's are adopted and the Hale's are foster children."
"They're certainly good looking," she said.
She's not wrong.
I heard Edward chuckle next to me.
"Are you laughing because I'm right or because I'm totally right?" I said turning to him.
"Hmm let me think," he playfully stroked his chin, "I'm not so sure about you."
I gasped playfully pretending to be hurt, "Edwort you are such a bully. I'm leaving because of you."
With that I pulled Jasper up with me, and started to make my way to our next class.
-
"I have to leave. I can't go back to school with her."
We now sat, after school, in a full family meeting listening to Edward talk about how he just "had to leave."
"Are you sure you have to leave?" Esme was taking him leaving very tough.
"She's my blood singer Esme," Edward spoke sure of himself, "I can't be around her."
"So you're just going to run and hide?" I will admit my remark was rude, but I didn't care. "You get to run away and leave us to clean up your mess? She'll ask questions; wonder why you were so rude, and why you just left."
"I agree with Adeline," Rose said just as angry as I was, "You're going to let a human drive you away from your family."
A stupid human. That's what this was all about. I mean if he drinks her blood it's not that much of a loss to society.
Suddenly, I felt myself being pushed back into a wall, and a strong hand wrapped around my neck.
"She's not just a stupid human. She's my mate, and I already care for her. You stay away from her."
"Edward," I started slow and in a low voice, "you can let me go, and we can take this outside. I don't feel comfortable breaking Esme's house just to teach you a lesson."
He slowly let me go, before running outside. I ran behind him and grabbed his arm twisting it backward and holding him in that position.
"Lesson one: you're selfish. You're leaving us to clean up your problems."
I then twisted him back around and pushed him into a tree.
"Lesson two: she's a human. The Volturi will kill you and her if you expose our secret."
I then grabbed him holding him around the throat like he had me.
"Lesson three: never put your hands on a lady. Especially me."
With a final slap, I went to return inside, after giving Emmett a high five.
