Prom. I dreaded the idea of going more than anything else, but with a sibling like Alice I had to go. I wanted to simply stay at home and mope, as I had been doing since the day we had arrived home after James's death. Jasper and I had yet to talk; I heard through the family that he just wanted to give me time to grieve but we all knew it was deeper than that. Edward told me about the truth of his thoughts, he was doubting the truthfulness of my feelings for him. My past with James and Caius was just too much for him, which I truly didn't understand. I knew about his past with Maria, and their's was more than I had with both of the men in question, yet I never doubted him for a second. Maybe it was caused by one of us loving the other one more; a horrible fate on a relationship.
I heard a knock on my door, interrupting me from my thoughts.
"Hey Adeline, I could hear your thoughts from across the house and thought you may need a pick me up. I brought the big bear."
"Y'all come on in."
As Edward and Emmett walked into my room they began to laugh at my constant state. I was midway through getting ready for prom, meaning my hair was halfway curled and my makeup was nonexistent.
"Hey now! Unless you both want to help me, you better stop laughing."
"I'll help."
Edward and I both froze looking at Emmett as those words came from his mouth.
"Oh don't act so surprised, think of who I am married to. I curl Rose's hair all of the time when she doesn't want to."
"He's not lying!" We all bursted into laughter at Rose's outburst from her room.
"That would be wonderful, thank you Big Bear."
We fell into a comfortable silence as Emmett began to curl my hair, I started on my eye makeup and Edward sat on the corner of my vanity.
"You need a nickname," Edward suddenly said.
"Pardon me?"
"You need a nickname. You have given both of us one, though mine is quite rude."
"Oh hush Edwort, but I agree. We can't be Big Bear, Edwort and Adeline. It's boring."
"Okay, then what do you two suggest."
I laughed as Emmett put on a funny face as he began to think.
"Well we know we can't call you Line."
"Absolutely not."
"A. Ad. Ade. Adel-"
"Are you going to through every letter of my name?"
"Hey now, we both know thinking is hard for him so let him do it any way he can," Edward said laughing.
"Actually, you know what has the same framework as the word Adeline?"
"Pardon me, Emmett? Did you just use a big boy word?"
"Abe Lincoln."
"YES," Edwort yelled at the same time I yelled "NO!"
"I am not going to let you call me Abe Lincoln."
"Wait so we can't call you Abe, but you can call me Edwort?"
"Exactly."
"Too bad Abe, this is is the best nickname I have ever came up with and it's staying."
I groaned at the two of the them, and the sight of Alice entering the room with my prom dress.
"Out boys. It's dress time!"
-
After last minute torture, I was finally putting on my nude heels, the final touch of my outfit. I started to leave my room when I was met with Rosalie, who was dressed in a gorgeous rose patterned dress, ha what a pun. We waited outside our doors for Alice to join us, as she wanted us all to walk downstairs to met their dates all together. As we waited I wondered if Jasper was even going to the prom at all, we had talked about going together in the past, but that was before our big falling out.
"Okay I'm here. I'm here."
I loved Alice's dress, it just screamed her. She wore a light blue short dress, due to every long dress being TOO incredibly long, with butterflies on it. She looked beautiful.
As we made our way to the top of the steps, I became worried of who would be standing at the bottom of them. I didn't know if Jasper would be at the bottom, and I was unsure if I was more scared of him being there or not being there.
"Okay we're ready for ya!" Carlisle called up the stairs to us. Though they had done this a million times, Esme and Carlisle sat at the bottom of the stairs with a camera ready to capture our pictures.
At the bottom of the stairs stood four people: Esme, Carlisle, Emmett and Edward.
As we descended down the stairs, Rose headed towards Emmett as Alice headed towards Esme and Carlisle.
I walked over to Edward before thinking, 'I don't know why I am surprised. I knew he wouldn't be standing here.'
'I'm sorry Adeline. I truly believed he would get over himself for this one night, for you.'
'Don't be sorry. It's his loss.'
'We can agree on that.'
'Now go get your girl before she thinks she's being stood up as well.'
"I love you all. Girls you look amazing, but I must now go get my date," Edward announced after our mini conversation.
"We will see you at the dance," Alice said happily.
-
We decided to all ride together to the dance, and had finally arrived. Rose and Emmett had gone off on their own, which left Alice and I to dance together on the dance floor. After a few songs I became quite aware of someone watching me, and so I excused myself to go find out who.
As I walked outside of the venue I was met with Alec.
"Alec! What are you doing here," I exclaimed while grabbing him into a hug.
"Would you believe I just missed you?"
I gently pulled away, but still held his hand close, "Oh absolutely not."
"Adeline, I come with a message."
"Alec. Please tell me it isn't time."
"You know I wish it wasn't, but they require your attention. They say they miss your spark and fun you brought to the guard."
I couldn't stop myself from frowning, "That doesn't sound like the leaders I left."
Alec looked down, "He misses you."
I took a deep unneeded breath before looking at Alec, "There's nothing I can do, is there?"
"I'm afraid not."
"How long so I have?"
"They require you by September 15th."
"Alec! That's only 5 months away! How am I supposed to leave my family in 5 months."
"I don't know," he responded sadly.
"Oh Alec," I said realizing my mistake, "You and Jane are still my family. You will always be my family, these people are just my family away from the Volturi."
"I understand. I'm sorry I had to be the one to tell you this, I wish I didn't have to."
"I know Alec. I know."
I pulled him into another strong hug, "I guess this is a see you soon?"
"What? Are you not even going to ask me to dance with you?"
"In a room full of humans? Alec, I'm not stupid."
He laughed, "hey now I haven't eaten anyone yet."
"Oh gosh."
"You just remembered the diet requirement?"
"I did. Alec I don't if I can do it again."
"I am sorry Adeline."
"I know," I pulled Alec in for one last hug.
"I will see you soon, Alec."
"Until September Adeline. Remember your family is always with you," he said touching my bracelet. I knew he was saying he loved me without the words.
"And with you," I responded while touching his crest on his chest.
In a flash Alec was gone, and I was left with only my thoughts and emotions.
***
Ahhhh! Twilight is officially done! I'm honestly so excited for the next sections of this book and I hope y'all are too. Also don't we all just love Alec? He's my favorite Volturi member and I really want him and Adeline to be like siblings. Ahh sorry I just realized I never posted this and it's been done FOREVER!! I swear I'm going to start writing again!!
Until next time
