Allison POV

Once everyone has the Taco Bell order of their choice. We were back in the van and on the road again. This time with Tyler driving and Mark asleep in the passenger seat.

Josh and I had switched sides in on the bench seat, making me the perfect candidate to be his new pillow. He looked exhausted. And I knew he was drained after being Tyler's human xanax and mood stabilizers for the past week.

I turned and positioned myself so he could lay comfortably on my lap. I patted my legs, suggesting he should lay down.

He looked at me and smiled while kicking his shoes off and curling his legs up underneath him. He let out a comfortable sigh when his head was on my lap. I entangled my hands in his hair, playing with it any way I could think of. I leaned forward and planted a soft kiss on his forehead. A soft smile flashed across his face.

I felt something flutter in my stomach. I wanted that flutter forever, I decided.

How many times have you thought that before? The loud voice in my head boomed. Where I knew Josh wouldn't hurt me, it did remind me I needed to be careful.

Once I heard Josh's breathing get deeper, the way it does when he's sleeping, I took a deeper breath. I knew he didn't sleep as much as he should. I liked seeing him be peaceful. He worried too much, about Tyler, about me, about this show.

"Looks like it's just you and me," Tyler said after about 15 minutes with a kind smile. He gestured to Mark who was passed out in the passenger seat. I laughed slightly, careful not to wake Josh.

"Excited about the show?" I asked genuinely.

"If I'm being honest, I'm terrified. This venue is like twice the size we normally play. And we're trying new material. That's always scary just by itself." Tyler and I have never spoken about real things. Just mindless jokes about whatever was around.

I liked sharing things with Tyler. He was comforting. "Yeah, I can only imagine. I'm terrified just coming with and standing on the sidelines." I said with a laugh at the end so the mood wasn't too serious.

"I know what you mean, I hate leaving home for this much time. I don't know why. Like I'm excited, but scared. Ya know?" His smooth raspy voice sounded more serious than before.

"Yeah, I totally get it," I answered. I looked back down at the sleeping boy on my lap. I understand being excited and scared, more than Tyler knew.

Josh POV

"Yeah, I can only imagine. I'm terrified just coming with and standing on the sidelines." I heard Ally say, to Tyler I'm assuming since I could hear Mark's bear like snores.

I think Tyler answered but I wasn't fully awake or caring yet. I left my eyes closed because there was no foreseeable reason to open them.

Is Ally really actually scared to be coming with us? I thought. I knew she was a bit nervous. But I didn't know she was scared. I'll have to work hard to make sure she is okay.

"Yeah, I totally get it." Ally kept in answer to Tyler. I let her keep playing with my hair for a few moments before I fluttered my eyes open. She was already looking at me with adoration. She looks so cute. She normally wore contacts but opted for her thick rimmed glasses for the van portion of the trip. Her short hair was beautiful messy and nothing I've ever seen could beat those eyes.

"Hey" I whispered "how long was I asleep?"

"Not long, maybe 35 minutes." She answered.

"Is sleeping beauty up?" Tyler asked with a grin.

Josh just rolled his eyes. "Hey! Only 15 more miles till New York!" He said pointing out the window to a sign that hung over the freeway. "We should wake Mark up so he can see us drive into the city!"

"All yell on three?" Tyler asked. Ally and I of course agreed.

"1...2...3..." Tyler whispered

In unison:

"MARK" Tyler yelled

"FIRE" Ally yelled

And "WAKE UP" I yelled

"AAAAAA WHAT??" Mark screamed as he swatted at the air around him.

"Just having some fun," Tyler said with a grin. "We're about 5 minutes from New York and thought you'd want to be awake for that."

After five minutes of anticipating in silence, we saw the large sign that read "NEW YORK ⬆️"

"Wow." Ally said looking amazed at the city springing all up around us.

"I know. It's amazing. Now the venue is only like 20 minutes from here. Wanna drive past and see what it's like?" He asked.

"Sounds great," I said, placing my arm closest to Ally around her shoulders. She looked so happy.

Everyone sat quietly, enjoying what was around them when a phone call on Tyler's cell phone interrupted us.

He fished it out of his back pocket. "It's the venue manager, probably calling to confirm." He handed his phone to me, I flipped it open and answered.

"Hello, are you with twenty one pilots?" The lady on the other end asked.

Her next words my stomachs flip and my Taco Bell almost make a reappearance. I just stared out the window while she spoke. I knew everyone was watching my face.

"Well um, thank yo-" the lady on the other end cut me off.

I didn't want to tell Tyler this. I couldn't tell him this.

"What was it about?" Tyler asked looking concerned.

"Um, there's not gonna be a show..." I choked out, hearing my voice crack.

"What? This is a sick joke, Josh." Tyler swerved into a nearby abandoned parking lot.

"There was a fire... The whole place is gone..." I said still processing the information myself.

Tyler, Ally, and Mark all shared the same facial expression, gutted. This was so bad. Tyler looked on the verge of tears.

"Well, we should at least go see the fire right?" Said, Mark.

"Why not at this point? Drive eight hours to see a damn fire, this is a damn joke." Tyler muttered as he peeled out of the lot he pulled into.

I looked over at Ally who still at spoken. She quickly drew herself back. "Are you okay?" She asked.

"I'm not sure right now," I answered truthfully.

"Fair," she answered.

Twenty minutes later we were in front of the venue. A fully standing, not burned down, venue.

"I don't get it," Tyler said. "Call the lady again."

"She seemed pretty sure that it was canceled," I brought up and I dialed the number. She answered, "hello, so. We're in front of the venue and it isn't burned down... Do you know anything about that?" I asked. The lady sounded uncomfortable.

"Um. No. There's just no show. Please don't call again." She answered then hung up.

"Definitely no show. " I told the group.

Tyler started hysterically laughing, Mark reached over to steer the van. Ally and I looked at each other confused.

"This is ridiculous, we drive all this way and nothing. This is the worst case scenario I never thought of. " Tyler said through harsh laughter.

"Tyler we came to New York to play music and I'm going to play music with you. Non-negotiable." I answered sternly.
