I woke up feeling groggy. I couldn't remember if what happened last night was real or a hallucination to calm myself down. I checked my phone.7:23am
"Two hours before I need to be at school"
I slowly sat up not wanting to face the day.
I sniffed the air. "Pancakes?" I got out of bed, slipped on short shorts and an old tee shirt and stumbled sleepily out to the kitchen. I saw Josh standing in my kitchen flipping pancakes wildly. He was shirtless and his basketball shorts hung low on his hips. When we saw me he smiled from ear to ear.
"Good morning, sleeping beauty." He walked over to me and wrapped his arms around me before his face turned bright red and he went back to his burning pancakes. I just looked at him confused, that means that was real last night. An overwhelming sense of embarrassment flooded me.
"Do you remember last night? He slipped a cup of coffee in between my hands."
I shook my head, even though I did remember, I needed to make sure I had the story straight. I sat down at my small kitchen table as he kept adding to the growing mountain of pancakes and retold last night's events.
"You called me at like 3 or something and sounded scared, I came over and you were having a panic attack. After you calmed down, you fell asleep before you told me what happened. I was worried it would happen again so I spent the night here." I nodded along to his story agreeing with the details, "I slept on the couch of course." He added quickly as he set a steaming pile of pancakes in front of me.
"Eat up, Ally. I have a big day planned for us." He looked so happy and excited I hated to be a wet blanket.
"I have classes all day," I said through a bite of what were actually delicious pancakes.
"Not anymore. You, miss Allison, are taking a mental health day. Don't give me that look, it's like a week till Thanksgiving break, no one will be there anyway. I already called the office and a very mean lady informed me that no one calls to say they'll be gone in college. You just don't show up." He stuck out his bottom lip as he passed me the maple syrup, he looked so adorable and he was being so nice I couldn't say no to him.
"Fine." I agreed. He smiled and squinted up his eyes. We both are in silence for a few minutes. I mentally slapped myself for the way I had been looking at Josh. But he was a drummer. And he was shirtless. And he did just make me pancakes...
As he finished the last of his breakfast he said, "I need to go home for a little bit. Why don't you meet me at my house at 1? Good?" He scrawled an address on a piece of paper. He grabbed his shirt off the couch and slipped it on, as he was heading out the door he turned back and said "Oh, dress for warm weather, bring a swimsuit and warm clothes" with a mischievous smile. He shut the door behind him.
"He wasn't even wearing shoes was he?" Was the only thing I could think.
-Josh POV-
I walked into my house to see Tyler eating cereal and watching tv on my couch.
"Dude, where's your family?" He asked through bites of cereal.
"Um, ski trip I think."
"Alright. Next question. Where were you?" He asked pointing his spoon towards me.
"I spent the night as Allison's."
Tyler winked at me.
"I bet you did, Joshy boy." I sat down next to him on the couch and he nudged my forearm.
