"Come on, Nix. You can do it." I waved my arm, and the water twirled in a flourish. It stayed there for a second before falling on the ground. I let out a frustrated sigh. Nat chuckled. "Try again." I glared at her. 

"This isn't going to work if you keep pushing me." Nat just ignored me and looked at the glass of water, which was now boiling over the top. 

"Um... Nixie?" I calmed down, and looked at the water. 

"Did I do that?" Nat shrugged. 

"I guess. But it's progress." I rolled my eyes, hiding my smile. This was pretty cool, even though I wasn't fully in control of my powers.

Later, at a diner, I stared at my hands, wondering what else I could do with my powers. The waitress brought over some hot chocolate. I took a sip, and was shocked to find it was too hot. I grabbed the cup, and almost immediately it froze. "Oh, okay." I let go of the cup, and sighed. "I can't go anywhere now." I sat down, and stared at the cup. "Come on, return to normal." Nat chuckled.

"Nix, give it time. Everything'll be fine. Every good hero needs to learn their abilities." I smiled. Typical Nat, giving me some advice she learned from working with S.H.I.E.L.D. 

"Thanks, Nat." She pointed to the cup, and I looked down to find it had returned to its liquid state. I lifted the cup up to my lips and tasted it. "Okay, its at normal temperature." I laughed.

That night, I pulled out my phone and opened the contact of my old best friend, Lily Davidson. We were thick as thieves until the other two came along, and we were still remotely close, but it wasn't the same.

"Hey Nat?" I yelled. "Is it okay if I get coffee with Lily?" Nat hesitated. "Nix, I don't know..." I persisted. "Please?" Nat poked her head in my room. "Fine, but you have to be careful. You don't know what you can do." I grinned. "Got it." I texted how does Saturday sound? and waited for a response. Eventually I got one saying perfect. See ya then. I smiled, and set my phone down.
