The whole ride home I was staring out the window just thinking of Grace. We were super close friends for the year she was with me and my friends. "Are you okay?"
I looked over at Mason who was driving and smiled. "Yeah, I'm just excited."
He shook his head sadly and glanced over in my direction. "Sky... Grace died. You were there, you saw he-"
I cut him off. "No, she's alive Mason. She has to be. I have to believe she is because I let her down. You wouldn't understand." I mumbled looking out the window.
I felt a hand grip mine and I looked back over at Mason. "I understand, I just... that's what I thought when I was told she was dead and... I just I don't want you to get your hopes up. I was at the funeral and she was-"
I cut him off again. "Fine! Don't believe me, but when you're wrong I'll be wanting an apology." I muttered as he sighed. He let go of my hand and went back to driving. I continued to think about Grace and what could have happened. I never dreamt about her until recently and that wasn't a memory because I wasn't dating Mason when she was my friend.
We always had a strong connection and I think she was in trouble. When we first met we just clicked. We always ran around and terrorizing our teachers and partners until one day... and just kind of stopped. She stopped hanging out with us and stopped talking to us, eventually it got to where we barely even saw her at school. Something had happened to her and she wouldn't tell me until-
Oh my god!
Before I could react I slapped Mason as hard as I could on the arm causing him to slam on the breaks. "You! You were the reason she was depressed weren't you?!" He stared at me like I was a crazy person.
I didn't have a choice at this point. I have to talk to grace and see what's wrong with her. If Tracey doesn't want to come with me then that's fine but I was still gonna find her.
After school got out I sprinted to her car and saw her walking out of school. She stopped in front of me before walking around, opening her car door and throwing her bags in. Instead of turning back around to talk to me she just climbed into her car and started to reverse. I rushed into the passengers seat and stared at her. "Really? That's what you're doing now? Ignoring me? What happened to you Grace?" I asked with concern.
She shook her head and continued to drive down the road to her house. I waited patiently and she didn't answer. She got of the car and I followed her into her house. We got to her room before she closed the door. "Why are you here?" She asked crossing her arms.
I stared at her confused, she went from depressed to pissed in point five seconds. "I wanted to know what's wrong with you... you stopped hanging out with us and seemed really upset-"
She cut me off. "Maybe that's because I had to leave all of my friends including my brother and my boyfriend in New York! Do you know what that feels like? No, because your life is perfect! You never get caught and no matter how much you try to deny it you'll always be the nicer person. Skyler get out of my house now!"
I crossed my arms and took a step towards her. "Like you said, I'm the nicer person. I'm not leaving you here until you give me the real reason." I ordered.
She stared at me for at least three minutes before sighing. "My brother texted me and told me that m- my best friend killed herself..." she stuttered as a few tears fell from her eyes. "Anytime I'm around people they die, I'm a hazard."
