I stared at Mason and bit my lip debating whether or not to ask. We were in my kitchen eating breakfast and no one was home. Ivy was at Alexis' and my mom was at the store.

I couldn't get the thoughts to stop running through my head. Why would he keep this a secret from me? What is his job? Why is he lying to me? How long has he been lying?

I was pulled out of my thoughts by a strong hand being placed gently on my cheek. I looked at Mason as he tilted his head to the side, analyzing me. "Stop overthinking." He mumbled with a small chuckle. The smile he had on his face made my heart skip a beat.

I looked at him and leaned into his touch but had to pull myself away. "Will you tell me now?" I asked quietly and I saw dread pass through him as his bright loving smile turned into a frown.

He sighed and reached out for my hand which I let him take as we moved over to the living room and sat on the couch. "Sky, I need you to let me explain everything before you react." He said seriously and I scrunched my eyebrows together in confusion.

I slowly nodded my head. "Okay, I won't speak until you finish." I said and he looked down at our hands as he gave it a little squeeze before kissing mine, not letting go as his lips lingered there.

He stared at me before slowly opening his mouth. "A couple years ago I started working for a very powerful man. You know that tall black building in the city? The one that has security guards out front?" I nodded my head slowly. "That's where I work, I got that job to watch after Janey obviously, but I had previously been working there when Grace left. My boss allowed me to do this because the work we do isn't very... legal. I trained there and he started assigning me with more important things and eventually he sent me to check on his niece..."

He looked up at me to check if I was still paying attention and I was. "One night- I-I can't remember what happened. It's all a blur, I went to the club with Ashton because I knew Grace and Janey were there. Janey had been taking trips out of town and no one knew why, so Ashton wanted to check up on her or at least that's what he said." He explained.

"Anyways while we were there we got drunk and Grace came up to me with her friend... her friend was gorgeous and the more we talked and danced the more I forgot why I was there. Grace got jealous and left somewhere with Ashton. The funny thing is, I can still remember that gorgeous girl calling me Ashton at least twice." He smiled and I did my best not to get jealous as I listened.

He looked down at our hands. "She got more drunk than I did and we ended up having sex in some hotel and when I woke up I knew if the girl did remember what happened she would've thought it was Ashton. I didn't want to leave but I knew Ashton was in love with her so I had to. After I left I ran into Janey outside my door and left with her."

He bit his lip as he looked at me. "The night that I slept with that girl, I saw bruises on her body... when I went home I had my boss assign me to her and he told me that she was his niece. I've been in charge of keeping my eyes on her for a few years. The more I protected her the more I fell in love. She had no idea I was protecting her or that I was assigned to her."

I had so many questions. "I was assigned to her because her father was a powerful man that was respected by a lot of people but he was a very abusive man. He was recently taken into our custody because we finally got the information on him we needed."

He stared at me with loving eyes and I kept my mouth closed. "My boss told me not to let her know that I was assigned to her. She never knew that there were men after he all the time. The men were after her because her father was such a powerful man, many people wanted to get to him and many people tried to hurt his daughter. That's how I protected her. I was assigned to keep her safe and gather all the information on her father I could to take him down."
