Emerald's POV

"Emerald! For the last time, get your ass down here!"

I groaned and rolled my eyes. I closed my laptop and grabbed my phone and earphones.

I headed downstairs.

"What's the big rush anyways?" I asked as I put on my sweater.

"We're going to the airport." My mom got her stuff.

I looked down at my outfit. Leggings and my sweater with converse. It's just the airport.

I shrugged. "And who are we picking up?"

"That's the surprise. Are you sure you don't wanna change?"

"Nah. Where's dad?"

My mom groaned. "Work."

"Of course." I looked down.

"Hey, he loves you with his life you know? He's just really busy." She put a hand on my shoulder and smiled.

"Mom, you need to get your hair re-dyed."

"I know I made an appointment." She ran her hands through her hair. She looked in the mirror. "Shit, I see a bunch on brown on the top of my head."

"You look a lot like Uncle Landon with your brown hair." I said laughing.

"I hope that's a compliment. Never mind, it isnt." She snorted and laughed. "Come on, let's go!"

We left the house and got in the car.

The car ride there was long but fun. My mom blasted music and sang so loud.

"Aw dang. The music is out." She turned the car off. "Well. Come on let's go inside. I feel you'll be super happy."

I shrugged again. "Eh. I don't think I'd care."

We entered the air port and waited where the family and friends of people who landed.

It was about 20 minutes later when my mom shook me.

"Hm?" I pulled out my ear phones.

"Nina!"

"HEY!"

My mom squealed and ran off.

I followed her and found her hugging a family friend.

"Lynn! Oh my gosh it's so good to see you guys after 12 fricking years!"

"You too! Ugh I felt like it's been 100 years. I feel old." The women laughed. She definitely didn't look old.

"Oh, Kyle!"

Kyle? He sounded... really familiar.

"Emerald! Come! You might not remember them but Nina and Lynn here where my best friends from high school! And this is their son, Kyle. You probably don't remember him much."

"Goddamn it, mom. You really bought the entire house." A boy, who looked about 18, looked up from the suit case he was pulling. He made eye contact with me for a while.

"Emerald! Holy... it is you."

"Uh." I stare at him and then my mom. "I-I..."

"It's fine you don't remember us, dear. You were only 4 years old after all." Nina smiled nicely.

Lynn snorted and laughed. Nina hit his chest.

"Ow what! I was just remembering the last time we saw them."

My mom laughed.

"What." I continued staring at all of them. I didn't know what to do or say! "Sorry, I really don't know.."

"Oh god, I do." Kyle sighed.

The three of them laughed softly.

"Lilac, you and Will are awful." Lynn shook his head.

"Ugh. Don't start. Let's go to my house." My mom sighed and helped them carry bags. She quickly got into a conversation with both of them.

They all walked ahead of me. Kyle walked a bit ahead of me and was struggling to pull the heavy luggage.

I rushed forward. "Hey, I can help."

Kyle turned to face me and smiled. "Thanks."

I grabbed one side. God damn why is it heavy.

"Since when did you dye your hair green."

I looked down ahead of me. "Well. The first time I went with my mom to the hair salon. So.. a year ago?"

"And you're 16?"

I nodded, yes.

"So you never went till last year."

"I don't get out much." I laughed softly. Mostly because I have no friends and people are either scared or weirded out by me. "Why were they laughing back there?"

We put the luggage down on the floor for a break.

Kyle groaned. "Because.. I used to be sort of like a parrot and saw your parents kiss so my mind thought 'hey there's Emerald. Lemme go kiss her real quick' and I did. And you said you loved me." He laughed.

"Oh no. I don't think I even knew what love meant." I smacked my face.

"It's in the past. Won't happen ever again. Unless.."

"Uh.."

"Unless you want me to." Kyle winked at me.

"Let's go." I pulled on the luggage but got held back by the heaviness. "Uh. Please help me."

Kyle shook his head and laughed. "Watch me." He lifted the luggage and carried it to my mom's car.

"So you didn't need help?" I shouted out.

"No. You're so kind to do so." Kyle laughed and put the luggage in the back along with the other luggage.

I tugged on my sleeve. Old habit. I do it when I'm nervous or awkward.

"Julian! Nalia!" I ran out my house and hugged my cousins in the parking space.

"Emerald!"

"Guess who's here!" I motioned to the entrance of my house. "Kyle!"

"Kyle?!" Nalia dropped her bag and ran to my house.

Julian groaned. "She's boy crazy." Julian put his arm around me. "How's life!"

"Great! Where are your parents?"

"Ah, they're coming in a few. They just came in a different car."

"Alright. Well. Let's go inside."

We headed inside. I went in the living room and saw Kyle and Nalia hug each other tightly.

A pang of jealousy hit me like a ton of bricks. Oh please, Emerald. You practically just met him after 12 years.

"Argh! I missed you so much. You look cuter than ever!" Nalia let go of Kyle.

"So do you!" He stared and smiled at her. "You look better than ever."

Nalia blushed and looked down.

It's true. She's gorgeous. Everything a girl would want to be. Everything a guy would want.

Are you serious, Emerald. Jealous of your own cousin.

I shook my head and left the room.

Kyle's POV

Nalia grinned. She still had her arms around me. Her hands on my arms. My hands around her waist.

I look at the corner of my eye. Emerald glanced at us and stood there for a short while. She shook her head and stared back down to the ground. Her green hair draped over her face and hid her.

I took one last look at her. And looked back at Nalia.
