Emerald's POV
I laid back on my bed and stared at the ceiling. It's been a few more weeks and my leg was still healing. Memories from that night seemed more and more distant but I knew they were still there. And there was something else from that day that was still haunting me. And I didn't know what to think of it.
I let out a faint shaky breath.
My door opened softly and someone walked in slowly.
"Hey." Uncle Landon walked in and smiled at me. "Are you feeling better?"
I nodded and gave a sideways smile that quickly fainted away.
He sat on the chair by my bed and rested his elbows on his knees. He looked down to the floor.
"I wish it wasn't like this."
"How could he have done this to mom?" I blurted out. "How come mom never told me?" My eyes started getting blurry but I took a deep breath.
"Your mom only cares about you okay?"
"Dad knew."
"Yes... but they didn't tell you because... they love you, Emerald. They were heartbroken when you were taken. I know I shouldn't tell you what to do, but you're like a daughter to me, and you should rest, spend time with you family because we all have each others' backs."
He took a deep breath and took my hand in his. "I know it's difficult that Owen did that to your mom... but we all have to move on-"
"Are you sure it was all Owen?" I glared at him.
He stayed silent now.
" 'Every scar tells a story'." I quoted. I paused for a bit and could feel my hand shaking. "But the scar on the back on her neck and the ones left on her arm... they're two completely different stories."
He stayed quiet again. He opened his mouth as if he was about to say something, but nothing was said.
Finally he said, "have you talked to your mom about this?"
I shook my head, no.
"This is something your mother tell you when you're ready and-"
I sat up straight now. "But I am ready to know now-"
"And-" he raised his voice a bit and shut his eyes for a few seconds. "And," he talked softly now, "when your mother is ready."
Now... it was my turn to stay quiet.
I nodded lightly and laid back again. I oooked away from him and heard my uncle sigh and get up.
"Don't push your mother, Emerald."
I didn't respond.
It was all Lynn.
Kyle's father. Nathalina's husband. My mom's... best friend??
I was so confused. Why would she ever befriend him.
Why would he ever do that to my mother?
~*~
Kyle carefully and quietly opened my door and I turned to face him.
He saw that I was awake and sat down on the chair beside my bed.
"Hi." I gave me a goofy smile and I chuckled.
"Hey."
"So what's up? What's new? What's the deal, homes?"
I roll my eyes at him. "Oh nothing. I just have a gun shot wound in my leg and am going through therapy." I grinned at him as his face dropped.
"Well I know that part. But how are you? Like are you feeling better?"
