Emerald's POV

School was starting and I was a junior now. Nalia, Julian, and Kyle were seniors.

I still didn't forgive Kyle and I haven't spoke to him much. Just small talk.

"Ready?"

"For what?"

"To show these people that Emerald came back hot as ever. They'll all regret ever avoiding you."

"I don't know, Nalia. I look a bit more approachable but people still and will always think of me as some weird girl."

"Not true. Okay. Julian is gonna drive me and he's impatient and annoying so bye."

"Alright." I hung up the call and put my phone to charge while I get ready.

I put on the best outfit I could put together. I tried a bit of make up and stared at myself. I took a deep breath and swung my back pack on.

Despite my love for dark colors, I chose a light colored, high waisted jeans with a white lacy crop top.

I headed downstairs and saw my mom and dad in the kitchen.

"Toast?" Dad held a plate of toast in from of my face.

I sighed and smiled. "God, yes please." I quickly took one and ate it.

My mom was cleaning the dishes.

It's mornings like this that I love. When the sun shines through the windows and gives the room a gold look. Where my parents take part together in the mornings. Where nothing else could be more perfect.

And of course, it had to be on a school day. I said my goodbyes and rushed out the door to head to my normal bus stop since I couldn't drive yet.

I made my way and heard a car pull up beside me.

I glanced to my left and saw Kyle seated in the drivers seat.

"Hey."

I looked away. "Hey."

"Uh. I can give you a ride you know?"

"My bus stop is.. right up there."

"Just let me give you a ride. Please."

I looked back at him and sighed. I opened the door and got in the passenger seat.

The way to school was quiet and awkward.

He parked the car and I immediately got out.

"Emerald!" Kyle called after me but I continued walking as if not hearing him. "Just.. can't we just talk and be friends like before?"

I stopped walking. "We can be friends. Just not like before." I stepped back and turned around to the front entrance.

I was about to pull the door when someone ran up and grabbed it instead.

"Here, I'll get that for you."

I looked at the hand and then the guy's hand. "Uh. Thank you, Liam."

"No problem. Hey, it's Emerald, right?"

I nodded. "Yep."

"Ok well, see you around."

I walked in the still open door and stood in the same walls as the last two years.

The door opened again and Kyle entered.

"Who the fuck is that?" He pointed to the back of Liam.

"Why would it matter?"

"It- it does matter."
