Emerald's POV

I opened the door to face a man who wore a suit that looked recently ironed and well put together. He looked in charge. Powerful. But not exactly friendly.

He glared at me. "Is your boss here?"

"Boss?" I raised my eyebrow in confusion.

"I'm guessing you're the maid." He had a low voice. He folded his arms and continued staring at me. Almost as if he were studying me.

"Im guessing you're my grandfather?" I shot back.

"I should've known. You look like Lydia."

"Her name is Lilac, father." My dad came up behind me and put his hands on my shoulders. He stood up straight and took a deep breath.

"Hello to you too, son."

"Hello. This is my daughter. Emerald."

"Hello Emerald. I'm sorry we started off on the wrong foot." He held his hand out for me to shake. I shook it reluctantly.

"What's happening?" I heard my mom come to the door.

"Ah! Linda! Nice to see you."

My mother smiled tightly and ignored his name mistake. "George. How are you?"

"I'm.. fine. May I come in."

"Yeah. Make yourself at home." I blurted out. I didn't realize the tone I used. It seemed sassy. I didn't care at this point.

I folded my arms and felt my dad nudge my shoulder as if saying "stop it and move aside".

I moved to the right of the door.

My grandfather held out his bag to me as if he were ordering me to hold it.

"Excuse me." I stared down at his hand and left.

It's only been a few minutes with him, and I hated it.

~*~

There was no where I was planning to go. I just walked and allowed my feet to take me anywhere. My mind wandered.

Yesterday.

I saw Kyle and Nalia kiss.

Yesterday.

I kissed Liam. Even though, he has a girlfriend who hates me now.

Yesterday.

Liam kissed me.

Yesterday.

Nalia made it clear she would ruin my life.

Today.

My grandfather is just... awful.

I was so focused and distracted, I didn't notice that I was walking into town where there were shops for clothes, shoes, furniture, etc.

I walked in a shop that had pretty clothes on racks and shoes neatly put on shelfs and jewelry that was put on small little hooks.
