Emerald's POV

A month later

I sighed and my cloud of breath ran through my face. It was cold and leaves were rustling under my shoes.

I expected myself to run crying last month at my birthday party, but instead I went outside for a fresh breath and went back inside to enjoy my day.

I haven't talked to Liam not Kyle. I just didn't feel like I deserved this. I was just a weird girl who used to be antisocial and allowed myself to be pushed out and excluded. And everything changed and it was too much.

I rang her doorbell and patiently waited outside. I shoved my hands in my pockets and took a deep breath.

"Hey..." Nalia opened the door. She was well dressed and had make up on.

"Uhm. Hi. I was told you had.. uh my heels... from the party last month."

"Uhh... no i dont."

I stayed silent. "Someone said you were gonna hold it for me."

"No, Emerald."

I sighed. "Is Julian here?"

"Yeah." She stepped aside and allowed me in.

I went up the stairs and opened Julian's door.

He looked up from his phone. "Wassup."

I sighed. "Hey."

"What're you doing here?"

"Well.. I came to grab my black heels from Nalia because they were kinda expensive and it's probably a good idea to.. get those back." I formed my mouth in a tight line.

"Which ones? Were they like kinda tall?"

"Yeah. I mean.. you saw me wearing them last month-"

"Because I saw Nalia sell those to someone."

I stayed silent. "Uhh."

"I'll talk to her." He groaned and shook his head.

"It's fine. Uh- they're just shoes." I sat up and huffed. "I should get back for dinner."

"I'm still gonna have a talk with her."

I formed a small smile and left the room.

Nalia stood by the door. I took a glance at her.

I shook my head and sighed as I walked past her.

"What?"

"Hm?" I turned around as I started walking down the steps.

"You shook your head at me." She spoke in a harsher tone.

"Nalia... seriously. We might not be on best terms but don't lie to me. Don't go behind my back and sell stuff that's mine."

She stayed silent and stared at me sternly. "Just go. I'm sure your boy-toy is waiting."

And car pulled in the driveway and I glanced at it.

I immediately recognized who it was. My breath hitched.

"Mine is here. Move."

I stepped aside and stared blankly in front of me.

I finally turned around and took one last glance at the car with Kyle in the drivers seat. He didn't notice me.

I left before he could.

I wouldn't let myself cry. I wanted to avoid him but it felt like he was slipping out of my life.

He deserves it. To find someone else better than me.

I took another deep breath and put a smile on my face when I entered my house.

My mom turned around. She was showing already.

She gave me a light smile. "Hey."

"Hey mom. I see you're showing already!" I grinned.

"Yeah I need more loose clothes." She sighed and laughed lightly. "I got rid of the ones from when you were in my belly."

My dad walked into the living room and put his arm around my mom. He sighed. "Wassup girls."

"Dad please don't."

My mom snorted. "You're not 18 anymore, Will."

"The good old days." He sighed and laughed.

My mom hit his chest lightly and rolled her eyes. "Yeah when you were the hugest player and jerk."

"Woah what?" I gaped at my dad and started laughing. "DAD SERIOUSLY?"

"What? How else was I supposed to relieve myself?" He shrugged and laughed.

"How many people?" I raised my eyebrow.

"I'm pretty sure your dad lost count on the third night."

"No I didn't. At least not till the third night. More like a week." My dad put his hand on my mom's stomach and smiled.

"And when did you guys..."

My mom's face turned bright red.

"Before our wedding." My dad smirked at my mom and kissed her cheek. "And two months ago. And plenty other times-"

"OKAY DAD STOP I DONT WANT DETAILS." I covered my ears.

"William Ryder! Stop it." My mom laughed and tried to act stern.

"How about you, Emerald."

"Excuse me?" I awkwardly crossed my legs.

They both stayed silent and I got what they were asking.

"No! Dad! I'm only 17!" I put my fingers to the bridge of my nose and shook my head.

"Im going to start cooking dinner." My mom got up and went to the kitchen.

"Where'd you go just now?" My dad asked me.

"Just went walking." I shrugged.

"And what about Liam. Or Kyle?"

"Nothing's happening. It's not like there's a chance."

"Then they're dumb. Who wouldn't love my beautiful daughter."

I smiled. My dad always knew what to say. He was my mom's savior as he was mine.

"Thanks, dad. I feel like I learned A LOT today. I'm going up to my room." I laughed as I got up and went to my room.

I sighed once I opened the door and flopped myself on my bed. I felt so empty and emotionless as I started thinking about Kyle. Nalia was dressed up and he seemed to be as well. His black hair was fixed and all which made him look more charming.

Nalia with her light brown hair that was long. She wore a white dress that fit her well.

It was obvious what was happening.

They're going on a date.

I take a deep breath and shut my eyes.

They're going on a date.
