Emerald's POV
I stood in my room in front of mirror, staring at my reflection.
I wore a black dress with black heels. I looked at my pale complexion and softly touched my face. I think I'm doing better at doing my make up.
I sighed and closed my eyes.
We were having a reunion party.
"Come on, kiddo. You can even invite anyone you want!" My mom grinned and put the washed plate in the drying rack.
"Who would I even invite." I groaned quietly.
"What about Liam. You two sure seem to be getting... close." She smirked at me.
"Mom!" I widened my eyes and instantly felt my face turn bright red. I thought for a while. "I think I will."
"Your dad and I got in touch with some else from highschool. Not our favorite person but turns out she's in town now. I'm sure you know who I'm talking about."
I thought for a while. "Wait what? Courtney? From 5 years ago?"
"Bingo!"
"Oh that's great!" I felt my face, once again turn bright red but I made sure to not face my mom.
I took another deep breath and felt my heart beat fast.
Calm down, Emerald. It's only been five years.
I got a black jacket to cover myself and headed downstairs where my mom had a black and purple dress with silver heels and held my dad's hand. He wore a sharp black suit and definitely looked professional and powerful, but fatherly and loving.
"Aye. There she is!" My dad grinned. "My two beautiful girls." He glanced at my mom and I, and put on a proud face.
I laughed softly.
"Come on! I said we're gonna be fashionably late but not so late that people are already gonna be leaving!" My mom hurried out.
I slowly walked behind them, trying to avoid snapping my neck in these heels.
"You look like a penguin, Emerald." My dad laughed as he walked behind me.
"Great! I love penguins!" I said making my way to the car.

We entered the place that we rented out for having a party.
Certainly, my parents wanted to go all out for having a reunion party. Lots of people were dancing and drinking and talking.
"Definitely hasn't changed. People are still drunk and partying." My mom joked and snorted. "Ooh! Will look! Wings!" She ran to the food table pulling my dad who was laughing.
I scanned around the large room that was dim, but filled with colorful lights.
I spotted Liam who was drinking a soda and was talking with Julian.
I looked to the left of the room where Kyle and Nalia were talking as well.
I sighed and sat at a chair near to me.
Parties weren't really ever my thing. It usually ends up with at least a couple of wasted people and then room gets humid and loud music and loud people.
I blanked out and started only hearing the loud thumps of the music that seemed to vibrate the room.
I jumped as a hand touched along my arm.
"Sorry." Liam sat down next to me. "Why haven't you been partying?"
"Not really my thing." I reached over for a cup and poured icy water.
"Let's dance."
I looked over to him. "Unless you want to be stepped on continuously and be in pain, no thank you. I don't dance."
"I don't care. I'll go through pain for you, baby." He smiled and laughed softly as my eyes widened and I looked shocked.
"Liam!" I could feel my face turn bright red.
He got up and held out his hand to me. I took a deep breath as I stared at his hand.
I guess I'm not gonna only snap my neck tonight...
I took his hand shyly and he led me to the dance floor.
The music was upbeat and all of a sudden changed to a slower tempo.
"I'd say that was a coincidence but I asked the DJ to change the song into a slow song once I got you to agree to dance with me." He pulled my close to him and I felt my heart beat faster.
"I-I.."
"I can tell you're getting nervous, Emerald."
"Im just-"
"Shh. Just dance, babe."
My heart flutters when he calls me that again. I'm falling for Liam hard.
I followed his lead and tried avoiding to step on his feet.
He held me close and I felt safe in his arms as we swayed to the music. I closed my eyes and smiled as I put my head on his chest. I opened my eyes again to see Kyle stare at us intensely.
I avoid his gaze by facing the other way where I see Courtney and her two kids walk in.
My breath hitched when I saw her little girl and her son who immediately made eye contact with me.
The song switched to a song that was faster and Liam let go of me.
"Thank you." He smiled and bowed to tease me.
I laughed at him.
"Aren't you getting hot wearing that jacket? I know I'm getting hot." He winked at me and my face turned red once again.
"I... don't really feel comfortable taking off this jacket." I said.
Literally wearing a backless dress so of course I'll feel uncomfortable.
"That's fine. But you shouldn't ever feel uncomfortable. You're beautiful." He whispered in my ear.
It sent shivers down my spine.
"Excuse me! May I have your attention!"
We looked over to my dad who was speaking with the microphone in his hand.
People stayed silent and waited for him to speak.
"First of all, thank you everybody who could come and attend this reunion party. I see my closest friends and classmates and my beautiful family in the crowd and I couldn't be happier." He smiled at my mom and I. "Also, tomorrow will be my little girls birthday so, Emerald, we know you didn't really expect this but this party is also your celebration. So give it up for Emerald!"
There were cheers and everyone stared at me. A bright light shined in my face and I squinted my eyes and held my hand over the light. The room started spinning and all I heard were people's distant cheers and whistles and clapping and my heart that was beating loudly and fast. And I felt myself collapse.
