Chapter 22

Aiden

"Did you find her?"

"Nah, man, I looked all over the house," Nixon lazily replies.

I'm an idiot. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Even Sorita told me to keep an eye at her the whole time. Why am I such and idiot? Why did I turn my back for even a second?

"What's going on?" Torrino asks.

"Aiden's chick. Can't find her, and problem is that she's mute," Nixon explains.

"I've got her!" Hunter shouts from afar. A couple seconds later, he falls into sight, carrying Alina.

"What the fuck did you do to her?!" I yell, immediately taking Alina in my arms.

Hunter backs off. "Woah, calm down, man. I swear I didn't do anything. She was outside and I saw her looking upset, so I asked if she was okay, but she kept crying, so I just sat down next to her and let her cry on me. Then she kind of half fell asleep, half passed out."

Nixon and Torrino glance at Alina for a second, before looking up at me.

"Nix, sorry man, I've gotta go," I tell him.

"Understood," Nixon says, nodding at Alina. "Keep me updated on how your girl is."

After setting Alina down in the passenger's seat, and getting into the drivers' side, I kind of just sit there staring straight ahead, wondering what the hell I was thinking when I decided to take Alina to a party.

Well, I thought that maybe it could help her get past the car accident. I doubt she's gone to another party since then.

Sighing, I start up the car and slowly drive us back home.

...

"Oi, they're back," somebody whispers.

"This is so exciting."

"Do you think they kissed?"

"Do you think they're dating?"

"Do you think they danced together?"

"Ohmygosh my heart will totally melt if they're dating."

That last one was definitely Sorita. My family is too loud for their own good. Actually, both of our families are loud. I don't think any of them understand the concept of whispering. Ignoring them, I run over to Alina's side and carry her out and to the door.

I don't even have to put a hand on the knob to open it. Sorita does that for me.

Her jaw drops in an instant. "What happened?"

"Long story short," I huff, "I don't think parties are in Alina's good book yet."

"Aw, damn," Sorita whispers behind me. She and River and Jeremy follow me upstairs, and after tucking Alina into her own bed, they sit down in the middle of the room, waiting for the long story.

"Er," I mumble, sitting down with them, "I don't actually know the long story piece by piece. Hunter found her."

"Found her?" Jeremy asks. "As in, you lost her?"

"I thought I did, but she was sitting on the front porch steps. Nixon, the idiot, searched every corner of his house, but not the outside. Hunter came in, carrying her, saying that she was crying outside and then she sort of half fell asleep, half passed out."

River presses his lips together tightly, and folds his arms together, giving me an unhappy look. "I don't know why you even thought that it's okay to just jump right into going to a party. You had to know that it would be like suffocating for her."
