Chapter 32

Aiden

Sorita glances down at her nails, before looking back up at Jason. “You might want to start explaining before everything goes down in the deep end.”

Jason laughs. “Calm down, Simmons.”

My sister rolls her eyes. “I told you not to do it today. You should have waited.”

He shakes his head. “Simmons, do us all a favor, would you? Shut up.”

I glare at him. I glare at my sister. What the hell is she doing with him? My own sister. I can’t believe this! “Sorita!” I shout. “How dare you!”

Sorita sighs, looking at Jason. It only outrages me more. Jeremy looks broken, and Alina looks scared out of her pretty little mind. “Jason, would you cut the freaking dramatics and start talking?”

He snorts. “You’re really in no position to be taking authority over a CIA agent.”

I blink. “I…wait, what?”

Sorita stares up at Jason, who stares down at her. “Fine!” she gives in. “I’ll do it!” She turns to us, but when seeing the looks on the general public, who are all terrified, she turns back around to Jason. “Put the freaking gun away! You’re scaring the people!”

He glares at Sorita. “Look, Simmons, hurry it up, alright? Jared’s out prowling around, and this gun here might just save you and your pretty little friends.”

She huffs and turns back around. “Alright, this here is Jason Mann, twin brother to Jared Mann.”

“Yeah, we got that, thanks,” Jeremy spits out.

Sorita glares at him. “Cut the attitude, Jeremy and hear me out, alright? Jason here is part of the CIA, and has been on his brother’s case for ages. Those cops we met, Jer? Yeah, they’re on Jared’s payroll, and they busted him out. The guy we saw at the club? Jared. Jared’s the one who’s been doing all of these things. Running over Alina, sneaking into the hospital, all of it. The only thing that Jason did was send Porter to the school, but you know how he shot, but nobody got hit with it, except Aiden?”

I nod. “Right. That was weird.”

“Because he was under Jason’s orders. Jason sent him there so that they could arrest him.”

“What, did he tell you that? And you believed him? Come on, Ree, you’re better than that,” Jeremy snaps.

Sorita sighs. “I told you they wouldn’t believe you.”

Jason steps forward, and holds out his CIA badge. We all back away instantly, but Alina’s the one who actually inches forward and take’s Jason’s outstretched hand. I stare at her.

“I. Believe. Him,” she tells me. Then, she points to Jason’s forehead.

Sorita nods. “Right. Jason has a scar, right here. Alina knows that he wasn’t the one who went in her hospital room a few weeks ago. And that he wasn’t the one in that club a few months ago.”

Alina nods.

Jason then says, “Besides, if I wanted to hurt you, I certainly could have by now.”

Jeremy eyes him. “Then what was with the dramatics of the gunshots?”

Sorita rolls her eyes. “Just that. Dramatics.” She turns to face Jason. “You’re paying for that ceiling. I’m not taking care of it.”

“How long have you two been working together?” I curiously ask.

“I met him a few months back,” Sorita explains. “Since the lockdown.”
