Chapter 23

Alina

"Rise. And. Shine. Princess."

My eyes pop open. That did not come from my bracelet. I stare at the doorway, where Aiden leans, grinning.

I sit upright in my bed, pointing directly at his wrist, waiting for him to explain.

He, instead of explaining, pulls out his phone and types for a minute or two. Then his bracelet says, "I. Declare. December. Sixth. National. No. Speaking. Day."

I lift an eyebrow, but he adds on,"For. You."

I small smile tugs at the corners of my lips, but I still contradict my mouth's smile by narrowing my eyes on him, scrutinizing his movements.

He points at my bathroom, ushering me to get up and go get ready for school.

When I only sit still and stare at this enigma in front of me, he sighs and picks me up and off the bed, dropping me on my feet in front of the bathroom door, and shoving me inside.

Hmph. Someone's bossy.

"So. When. Exactly. Does. Break. Start?" River asks Aiden before devouring the eggs that our mom had made for breakfast.

"Two. Weeks," Aiden replies, as he tilts his head backward to keep the food that's in his mouth from falling out, since his mouth is basically stuffed to the limit.

"Pigs," Sorita says, and the guys don't hear, but I do. Loud and clear, and I laugh, because it's so true. River fist bumps Aiden as they both continue noisily chewing.

We suddenly hear a car horn from outside, and the three of them immediately get up and slip their dirty dishes in the sink, grab their backpacks and head out the front door. Aiden glances back at me when I sit there, watching them, looking frightfully clueless.

He rolls his eyes and slips his arms under my shoulders and pulls me up, grabs my backpack from the side of the chair, runs out the door with me hanging off his shoulder.

This guy really needs to learn to stop carrying me around everywhere.

"Let's. Go. People," Tyler says through the use of his bracelet.

"Or. We'll. Be. Late," Jeremy adds.

Mother of god, how many people have these damn bracelets?

...

"Hey. Alina!"

"How. Are. You. Alina?"

"Isn't. This. Amazing. Alina?"

"You. Look. So. Nice. Today. Alina!"

So I'm guessing that apparently a lot of people have these damn bracelets.

"What. Did. You. Do?" I ask Aiden, tugging down on his shirt from the collar. He gets tugged down so that his face is down to my height, and he shoots me a lopsided grin (one that makes me just melt).

"I. Might. Have. Made. An. Announcement. A. Couple. Of. Days. Ago. That. Today. Would. Be. National. No. Speaking. Day. In. Honor. Of. You," he says, nonchalantly.

Of course he would. No wonder the entire school has in their possessions, a bracelet identical to the one that I have. If their precious Mr. Popular Boy requested it, they would all go ahead and pay heed.

But it's still a super sweet gesture.

"Morning. Cousin."

Aiden grins and nods his head to Nick.
