Chapter 31
Alina
It's been a few weeks since 'The Incident'. Nobody has actually spoken of it yet. Any time that anybody brings it up, whether by accident or on purpose, someone else immediately changes the subject.
Slowly, people just stopped bringing it up. I've grown accustomed to accepting the fact that I actually am mute, and beside the fact that Aiden knows better, it's as though nothing as changed in that aspect.
Speaking of him, he's just barged into my room while I'm still trying to fully wake up.
"Hey, Princess, do you remember way back when I made those conditions for you to get your phone back?" Aiden asks, ignoring the fact that I'm still half asleep.
"Somewhat. Why. Do. You. Ask?"
He grins. "Well, the last clause in that list was that I hold a free card on you."
My eyes widen as it comes back to me. For a full forty eight hours, I would be under his every command. But then I roll my eyes. My phone is already back to me and that list was made months ago. It's not like Aiden could force me into doing anything.
"Too. Bad," I say. "I'm. Not. Doing. It."
He smiles wider, flopping down on my bed. "See, I knew that you would say that. That's why I'm here to tell you in advance that I swear it won't be so bad. Like, how about I'm calling on that full forty eight hour service period now?"
I fold my arms together, watching him curiously.
"And the first thing I would like you to do for me is, oh, I don't know, how about a sweet kiss from a sweet Alina?"
A small smile forms on my lips, and I start laughing at his cheesiness. I lean closer to him, waiting for him to shut his eyes. When he does, I shove him back and run out of my room.
I hear him groan loudly. "Dammit! I was so close!"
Laughing, I run down the stairs, where upon I find River, with my SAT book. With an amused expression on my face, I sit down next to him, and bump his shoulder.
He quizzically looks up at me, and sees my gaze on the book. “Oh, this?” he says. “Tomorrow’s the SAT’s, yeah? Figured I should probably study a little.”
I stare at him. Last minute? He’s had no preparation for this? Is he dumb or is he dumb?
He sees the look on my face. Grinning, he says, “Chill. I know my shit. This is just me brushing up on some loose English vocabulary.” The look on my face says I don’t believe him, and he knows this. He knows me well enough to know that’s what I feel.
