It was extremely hard explaining to your brother how you ended up bringing home and falling in love with a merman that used to kill wayfarers. Zeref read loads of things, like deathly facts and books on everything and anything. He believed in many things, demons, magic, wizards, and merpeople. But he never believed that merpeople had mates, or rather soulmates. He didn't believe in that mumbo jumbo at all.

After recovering the most sought after treasure from the island "Death's Sand," you went after more islands that had been swarmed and protected by merpeople. Turns out, Elfman was promised to a mermaid named Evergreen, and boy was she pretty. After a while, some mermaids and mermen would ask to board the ship and we'd treat them as friends. It was unheard of, a pirate ship that had become friends with the one species that could kill us.

A mermaid, named Mavis, came with us in the search for adventure. She was curious and very sweet, not only that but she was phenomenal when it came to strategy and battle plans. She wanted to follow us to land and meet "the strange land walkers." Mavis seemed to help us with anything and everything, from pirate battles to treasure hunting puzzles, she was always there with a way to help.

But she didn't have anywhere else to go. After she left the water, she didn't want to go back, and they didn't want her to come back. So you offered her a home. You said that you lived alone, with the exception of your two brothers. And since there were already four rooms, she could take the fourth while Gray roomed with you and Lucy roomed with Natsu.

Once you had docked, it was like your childhood family knew. The whole town was there congratulating you on your travels and feats. They welcomed your crew and welcomed your new boyfriend as well. After the whole greeting fest, they left so that everyone could go home. Most people went to an inn, considering the amount of money they had now. Others settled down and bought a house! Well, lets be honest, it was only Jellal and Erza.

Everything had settled and you, Natsu, Lucy, Mavis, and Gray were by the dock talking about how you'll explain the three new merpeople living with us. It was a good thing we lived right beside the water too, so they wouldn't have to stray from the water for too long. After deciding on what you'd say, you went home hand in hand with Gray, giggling as you made jokes with Mavis.

The moment you came home, Zeref was waiting at the front door, tending to his hanging garden. He stood on a stool, not a care in the world. Smirking slightly, you walked forward sneakily and jabbed his side, making him yelp and fall from the stool. When he hit the ground you started to laugh loudly, pointing at his slightly annoyed face and sore butt. Mavis had rushed over, frantically checking him over and trying to make sure he was safe.

"(Y/N), you have to be careful. You humans are much more fragile than us, you could have really hurt him," she scolded.

You raised an eyebrow at her and said, "Mavis, your weakest spot is your gills, our weakest spot is inside of us. With a bunch of cushion to protect it."

"Gills?" Zeref interrupted. His gaze flashed back and forth, landing on Mavis, Lucy, and then finally Gray. "Are they all merpeople?"

You nervously scratched the back of your head and nodded, chuckling hesitantly. His eyes widened with wonder and he looked at all of them, studying their features for quite some time.
