Color

When two soulmates connect eyes, their world is exploded into color. Beforehand, it was simply black and gray.

You sighed softly, leaning your head on your hand and watching people pass by the small coffee shop you visit often. You loved the (coffee/tea) they served here. It was like you tastebuds would be scorched, but delighted at the flavor. You came to the coffee shop for one reason and one reason only. Your closest friend, Levy McGarden, was going to edit your book. She's a huge bookworm when it comes down to it. She also, like much of your other friends, found her soulmate. Some guy named Gajeel Redfox attacked her the first day she met. Tough love. Lucy Heartfilia? Met her number one only a day after joining a guild. What a poor fellow Loke is. He has to deal with her sassy, yet sweet personality. It doesn't help when you realize that Loke is a big flirt.

"(Y/N)-chan~!" Levy called, bouncing into the cafe on her 1/2 inch sandals. Her dress swished about and her hair was always as curly as the hairs on a newborn baby. A tall man was basically attached to her hip, piercings visibly poking his face and up his arms. His eyes were a... well, gray, maybe a little bit brighter as he looked down at the shorty next to him. His hair was dark, you deduced, and jagged at the edges. Gajeel, you presumed.

"Levy," you breathed, standing up to hug her. You were so nervous. You had written your first romance novel and you felt horrible about it. It seemed dry compared to Lucy's story. You were better at suspense and action rather than mushy love stuff. Plus, you didn't know what the world was like with color, as you were alone. Alone, such a harmful word. The most horrid one in the English tongue, murder doesn't hold a candle to it and hell is only a poor synonym. Levy and Gajeel sat down in the booth seats in front of you and you passed Levy the few introductions papers. As she read through, you saw her forehead crease in thought and her teeth biting at her lips. You knew what she was thinking. It was dry, depressing, maybe even boring.

She hummed, her eyes focused on the paper, "It seems. . . okay? Um, (Y/N)-chan, by any chance, do you, correct me if I'm wrong, do you have, and I mean please correct me," you cut her off, "No. I know, Levy, I'm twenty something and I still haven't found the one yet. Completely alone, yes, I realize. That's why I was so hesitant in making a romance story for you. It's not that I don't want to, I love writing, but not when it's something I've never even thought about before," you say, finishing you life story. Gajeel turns to Levy, whispering in her ear as her eyes light up, a new emotion to them.

"Well, there happen to be a few soulmate-less people back at my guild! Maybe you can try your chances and find him, or her!" she says, quickly adding the last part, a bright blush filling her cheeks. You raise an eyebrow, a short chuckle following after. With a nod, you pick up your satchel, stuffing the terrible writing you called a novel in one of its pockets as you sling the band over your shoulder. You watch as Gajeel laces his fingers with Levy and Levy leaning on his bicep, considering her height, you were surprised she even passed his forearm.

You watched them closely. Catching every joke, flirtation, and peck on the lips – as uncomfortable as it was. You needed more info, and because you were so awkward, you didn't think your relationship would be as cute as theirs. Even if you did find your soulmate, what would they think of you? You had scribe magic, which was close to Levy's magic but a little more old timey. You could perform the regular fire, water, air, and earth scribes, but it wasn't as cool as Dragon Slaying magic, or even Celestial Magic, it was just a hobby and maybe even part of your lifestyle.
