SCARLETT FOUND herself in her room. She wasn't locked inside there. She found her peace there. Her memories were there and though they quite literally sucked her soul, she liked being there. She liked the idea of being alone, especially since her friends hadn't made much of an effort in returning home, let alone trying to reach out.

She looked out her window and began to draw on her piece of paper. She found herself doing that often. She knew she wouldn't get far with it, she wasn't that passionate about it.

Her passions weren't high. She follows her father's footsteps and wouldn't dare deter from that.

She heard the door creak open and didn't bother turning around. It was always her father and never anyone she cared for. Maybe the deliver man, but other than that, nothing much.

"I don't have any mice today." She spoke, hoping her father would leave her alone after.

"Good thing I'm not here for that." A familiar voice said.

Excitement flourished her body as she turned around, but it didn't last long. She stood up from her seat and saw Mal standing there with a smile on her face.

Scarlett was excited that Mal was here, but she knew better than to let something like that last. Mal wasn't here for Scarlett and she knew that.

"What are you doing here?" Scarlett asked.

Mal thought the young girl in front of her would be concerned for her. She would've thought that Scarlett would be worried about why she was back at the Isle. Scarlett was the kindest out of Mal, Jay, and Evie. Carlos and Scarlett held the same amount and evil and kindness.

"They say home is where the heart is." Mal answered.

"This isn't home for you and you know that." Scarlett said, "The heart rots here."

Scarlett walked past Mal, bumping into her shoulder on her way towards the bookshelf. Mal held furrowed brows, turning to watch Scarlett's steps.

"Oh, wow." Mal huffed, "This isn't the same Scarlett I remember. It's been, what? Six months?"
