"Shh just be quiet. My mom's home." I whispered to Leo once I shut the front door. "Follow me."
I led him through the dining room and then up the stairs to my room where my mom couldn't find him.
"Okay so I'm gonna turn on my TV so if you want to you can find anything on Netflix that you'd like to watch." I turned on my TV and then handed Leo the remote.
"Thanks again." we made eye contact.
"Seriously it's no big deal. I've had to deal with Delphi's breakups before and this was always what happened." I placed my phone down onto my desk. "I'm gonna get some snacks. Anything specific you want?"
"Anything is fine, thank you." he responded.
I headed down the stairs and walked through the living room where Anthony was fast asleep on the couch. I entered the kitchen, where I could see through the window my mom outside on the deck smoking.
I pulled out 3 tubs of ice cream- vanilla, chocolate, and coffee- and took out some bags of popcorn to heat up in the microwave, along with a bag of Doritos and Oreos.
Once I got everything settled, I decided to go outside to check on my mom.
"Hi, mom." I shut the door, causing her to jump and turn around.
"Geez Maeve, you scared me." she lit up a new cigarette.
"Mom, stop smoking." I grew annoyed over the fact of knowing her lungs were becoming destroyed from the smoke.
"You can't stop an addiction honey." she released a puff of smoke from her mouth. "I'm going to keep doing it."
"I won't let you." I took a step towards her. "I'm tired of watching you die."
"It doesn't matter to me anymore. Your sister is in her deathbed, your a-... father is gone. You and Anthony are going to college in less than a year. Okay, maybe just you, but there's nothing left for me. Before I know it, I'll have nobody left." she explained.
"Don't be so pessimistic. Seriously mom this isn't healthy." I groaned.
"Who cares? I don't. At least you won't have to clean my dirty diaper when I'm older."
"Maybe I want to! I want you to be here when I graduate. When I get married. When I have kids. I want you here for all of it." I begged.
"Go inside, Maeve." she ordered, shoving another cigarette into her mouth.
"Fine, but just so you know: I will not be going to your funeral." I slammed the door.
I gathered all of the the food and brought them up the stairs, making sure not to awaken Anthony.
I opened the door and Leo was sitting on my bed, flipping through all of the movies and shows on Netflix.
"Find anything good?" I placed everything down onto my desk and handed grabbed a huge bowl of popcorn and brought it to my bed, taking a seat next to him.
"Hmm, do you just wanna rewatch seasons 1 and 2 of Stranger Things?" he proposed.
"Sure, why not." I replied. He selected the series and it began playing.
"Seriously, thank you, for everything." his face turned towards mine, growing closer towards me.
"It's no big deal, seriously." I turned towards him.
We examined each other's faces in an awkward silence, his eyes looking down at my lips a few times, until I turned back towards my TV.
I woke up the next morning in his lap, as he was sitting up against the wall, asleep. His face looked so calm and peaceful, not making a sound.
I sat up, trying not wake him, and I decided to go into my bathroom to take a shower.
Once I finished, I went back in to check on Leo, and he was awake.
"Hey." he looked up from his phone.
"Hi. So what do you wanna do?" I questioned.
"I guess I have to go back home eventually." he spoke. "I love Ansley so much, seriously I would take her back any day."
"You do you." I responded, then he pulled me into a hug.
"Thank you, Maeve." he breathed into my shoulder.
"Really it's no problem." I subtly felt his back. It wasn't as muscular as Link's, but he still was in better shape than I was.
"I guess I better get going." he sighed, gathering his belongings.
"Let me walk you out. My mom is at work so." I led him down the stairs and then to the front door.
"Thanks again." he smiled as he opened the door.
"You're welcome." I replied, then he shut the door and walked out.
"Did you have a guest?" Anthony's voice appeared from behind me.
"Yes, he needed a place to stay for the night. Ansley cheated on him." I answered.
"Mhm." he opened the refrigerator door, pulled out a 2 liter bottle of coke, and chugged it down, causing him to burp in my face.
"Thanks." I wiped my face.
"No probs sis!" he snorted. "So when are you gonna go on that date with Link?"
"I don't even know. He's kinda confusing." I responded.
"Yeah he's tough to crack. He's always stone cold on the outside. He sleeps with girls for a distraction, but he never really has feelings for them or goes on dates with them. Your fat ass is lucky."
"Wait... did you just say I have a fat ass?" I gasped. "What ass though?"
"Oh shut up. Now if you don't mind, I'm gonna go watch that drag queen show so byeee." he turned on his heel, flipping his hair.
"By the way, we have school tomorrow!" I called after him.
"Shit!" he stomped his foot down on the floor.
