I sat on the side of the road trying to stop my eyes from tearing up. I had no idea what to do now and I was not going to hitch hike, especially after watching the horror movies I watch. I took my phone from my pocket and dialled Emily's number. I didn't even bother calling my mother nor father as I knew they wouldn't pick up. "Hey Alexia!" Hearing Emily's voice calmed me a little inside.
"Em, it happened again and it's worse than ever!" My voice was shaking through the phone.
"Alexia are you ok, what happened?"
"I cheated on Cole again," I heard Emily sigh on the other side of the phone. "And he left, he packed his bags and drove home."
"It's ok just hang at Dylan's until you sort everything out." Emily obviously had no idea of what had happened what so ever.
"Em I really can't. When I was dating, him the first time, he had a girlfriend and a three year old child!" I went from worried sick to as frustrated as ever.
Emily gasped, "oh my god Alexia how did you find this all out."
"It's a long story and I'll tell you face to face but that's not the problem right now. I'm sitting on the side of the road with a phone and suit case. I have no way to get home." I wasn't exactly expecting Emily to drive six hours here and back but I hoped she had an idea of what to do.
"Do you want me to come get you, where are you?"
"Emily it's six hours from where we live and it's almost mid day already anyway. Just, I need help I have no idea what to do."
"How much money do you have in your wallet?"
"A 50 dollar note and my credit card."
"Does Dylan live close to the city? You might be able to book a night somewhere..."
"I can try but expect a call in the next hour or so, ok."
"Of course Alexia if you need the help I'm here." Emily had always been the bright and supportive one, I never called her my best friend, that had always been Blair. But Emily was growing on me more than she already had.
I began my long walked into the city. I tried thinking positive but what was there positive in this situation? I had lost the two most important people in my life and I wasn't planning on ever seeing them again, I'm in the middle of a city that I barely know and just to top it off there was no motels in any part of where I was. I had no idea what to do at this moment and all I wanted was to go home and re-invent myself. I was planning on blocking both Cole and Dylan and hanging out with my high school friends again. I wanted to build a new relationship with my parents and help them earn what they needed. I wanted to be a new Alexia, the kind that doesn't ditch anyone for anyone. But the only way I could do that was if I got home, my real home, the home where my parents live in.
I found a small bench and decided I would go homeless for a night. I opened up my suit case and layed out some of my own clothes on the bench to make it a little more cosy. While pulling out what seemed cosy enough I came across one of Cole's shirts. I held it up and stared into it. Memories came wondering back before throwing it out onto the road for cars to run over.
What felt like hours later, the sun began setting as I looked up to sky watching the colours change. The oranges, pinks and yellows soothed me and my hunger. I turned back down to my suit case and grabbed another shirt and clumped it up to make a pillow. I sighed before closing my eyes and looked forward to going home.
...
I opened my eyes slightly and saw a roof. I jumped up after realising I was in a car. "Mia!?"
"Hey Alexia," Mia turned around and looked at me with tiredness.
"What are you doing? How'd you find me?"
"Dylan's a celebrity Alexia all I had to do was search up where he lived and went from there." I thanked Mia's intelligence.
"Are you ok? You seem tired?"
"I'm fine Alexia but are you? Emily told me everything..."
"Yes I actually feel better than I expected. Can I take the wheel please." I said as more of a demand.
"No I'm fine Alexia."
"Pull over, you don't have a choice." I swapped sides with Mia and began the last two hours of driving. "How have you and the girls been?"
"Well I caught up with Emily at the coffee shop the other day, can you believe she's still with Max after everything!"
"I know but that's typical Em for ya," I enjoyed the laughter and felt like the old Alexia I used to be for once. "What about Blair?"
"She hasn't contacted anyone since our last shop together, have you heard from her?"
"No but I haven't tried contacting her either."
"Yeah neither."
The trip home was the most fun I had had in while. Mia and I pumped some old high school music as we sang and gossiped. "Thankyou so much Mia, I'm really excited to catch up more with you girls in future, when are you off to university?"
"Two weeks time."
"Woah! Congratulations Mia, I really hope you enjoy it." I pulled up out front of my own house and hugged Mia as tight as ever.
I walked into the typical house hold where Mom was sleeping on the couch in pyjamas and dad on his chair with a beer in his hand asleep. I turned the TV off and smiled at both of them. I walked up the stairs once again and into my old bedroom. I looked at the photo wall I had made before moving out. Pictures of Blair, Emily and Mia covered up the wall as the fairy lights above them were turned on. I turned around to see my mother standing at the door way looking at me with both relief and disappointment. I looked at her and smiled before running up and hugging her. "Mom I'm sorry for everything. I haven't been the perfect human let alone daughter. I want to create a new relationship with you and dad but I can only do that if you pitch in and help too."
She looked down at me, "I'm glad to hear that Alexia, but things then need to change around here."
"Of course, I can go back to doing chores and I'll even work more to help get money." My voice turned husky while tears ran down my eyes.
"Well that, and me and your father. He can stop drinking and I can stop being so demanding."
I looked up at her and walked to my bed as she walked into her bedroom. I took out my phone and contacted Emily.
Me: hey Emily, Thankyou so much for contacting Mia. I'm home safe and sound and about to block Dylan and Cole off all social media! I'm keen to catch up more in future xx
Emily: congrats Alexia! Can't wait to see the new and improved Alexia!
I then contacted Blair making sure she was ok.
Me: Hey Blair, I know we haven't spoken in a while but I'm free again. So much to tell you, are you keen to catch up sometime this week?
Blair: Hey Alexia thxs for the text. Yes I'm happy to catch up. Wednesday 10:00am coffee?
After doing all I could to re-invent myself, I then texted both Dylan and Cole in a group chat before blocking them.
Me: Hello twins. I know Cole you probably don't want to talk but I've restarted, don't bother texting back on any social media. Thankyou for everything you've both done. Goodbye💕
Blocked.
