Before I knew it, it was last period. The last five minutes I sat in my desk staring at the clock. The second hand clicked over the twelve, the school bell rang and everyone went nuts. Blair, Mia and I ran outside where the hallways were full of people shouting and jumping around. Emily was on one of Max's shoulders throwing her fist in the air. We ran after her but the crowd was too strong and pushed us back.
Once we finally got outside we saw Emily get in Max's mustang and drive off into the distance. We all looked at each other upset at the fact she didn't even say goodbye. We walked out of the school gates and headed towards star bucks. "So do you think you guys are going to go to college?" Mia started one of her usual conversations.
"No way I'm going back to school for another four years!" Blair crossed her arms.
"What about you Alexia?" Mia asked again. "Alexia!?"
"Oh sorry I was texting my mom. I don't think I'll go to college straight away, I'm going to at least wait a year or two."
Blair butted in, "is that Emily?" She squinted her eyes in another direction.
"Yes! Why is she crying?" I worried. We all ran over to her shouting Emilys name.
"Are you ok Em?" Mia said pushing up her glasses up with her finger.
"Max and I got in a fight, he drove off leaving me here." Emily sobbed into her hands.
"Well how about you come with us to get a frappé to cheer you up." Emily nodded back and started walking with us while crossing her arms, still sobbing.
With only a few more blocks down the road we walked up to star bucks. We ordered our drinks and sat at the same little table we normally sat at. "It's been a great year with you guys," Mia began to create an emotional feel.
"We still have to stay in contact no matter what ok."
"For sure!"
Mia then got her Mom to come and pick us up and drop us home, "Thanks for the ride Mrs Jones," I called out waving to everyone in the car. I walked inside only to see mum watching TV in her same pyjamas from this morning, and dad sleeping in his chair with a half drank beer in his hand.
Mom turned around to the sound of the door closing, "where have you been Alexia!"
"Mom I texted you saying I was walking to Starbucks with the others."
"I didn't get a text!"
I took out my phone and checked to see if the message was sent. "Mom I got distracted talking to the girls I didn't end up sending it, you should've texted and asked where I was."
"I thought you were more responsible, your not walking with the girls after school anymore!"
"Today was my last day of school, but like you would have known anyway." I fought back.
"Alexia go to your room now before you wake up your father!"
"It's not like he's been working all day!" I dragged myself up the stairs and slammed my door shut. The anger began to get to me and the thoughts of my parents not caring about me crept back into my head. It wasn't the first time something like this has happened, and with that thought in my head I grabbed out my computer and searched 'houses up for rent'. While going through and saving houses I couldn't understand why my mother didn't come looking for me or at least text me. She seem anything but worried, to her it was just another excuse to yell at me.
I woke up next morning, still in my clothes from yesterday and my computer on my lap. I went downstairs for breakfast and a shower and grabbed my wallet, phone and keys. "I'll be back later." I called to Mom. I got into my half empty car and drove to the station to quickly fill up.
I drove around debating whether to go visit these small, cosy houses. I wasn't exactly planning on buying a house any time soon. With a made decision of visiting only one house, I drove down an empty road with only a few houses along it. I got out of the car and saw a young looking man sitting on his porch while smoking a cigarette. "Hi, is this house 63?"
"Next door." He replied back with smirk.
"Thanks." I walked next door realising that he looked a little familiar. As I was walking through the house I looked out one of the windows, trying to figure out who this attractive guy was. After continuing my exploration, I walked back outside with my head down, looking at the guy in the corner of my eye.
"Are you looking for a house?" I realised he was talking to me.
"Yeah... no... well I just finished high school yesterday."
"And your moving out already?..."
"My parents...aren't the nicest people to live with. So I'm looking to move out as soon as I can. Well after I have enough money obviously, so not for a while yet." I emphasised on the 'while'. I found myself talking to this mysterious man the same way I would to talk to anyone I knew well.
With a quick goodbye I drove back down the road looking at the blonde haired guy in the side view mirror of my car, as he stomped on his cigarette and walked back inside.
