Chapter 27 :

Dumbledore stood infront of Hermoine, gazing her intensely. Hermoine's heart was in her mouth. She started shivering as he approached her. He went pass through Hermoine's body, it was then she realised she was into another memory. She sighed in relief, that it wasn't real or else she was sure to be expelled from Hogwarts!

Then she heard someone knock on the door. As the door opened she saw a very pale Lucius Malfoy with Prof Snape. Prof McGonagall entered the room shortly after that. "What can I do for you, Mr Malfoy?" asked Dumbledore who was standing next to the window, looking at the beautiful black lake and greenery of the Forbidden Forest.

"I need your help Dumbledore." said Lucius in a very low and pleading voice. "Why do you think, I shall help you ?" asked Dumbledore still gazing outside the window.
"Because we both want The Dark Lord to be defeated!" hissed Lucius, tightening his fist.

"May I know the reason Mr Malfoy, for such a sudden change? If I'm not mistaken, you last served him in the department of mysteries, not so long back. And today you come here and tell me that you want to defeat him. That is not convincing to me,to believe you" said Dumbledore calmly.

"He is the most cruel and evil man alive on this planet. He is insanely mad for POWER. It's true I was his loyal servant once. But now things have changed. I regret all that I have done for him. The most valuable thing in my life, is my family. I never thought about the mess I'm getting them into!!! I just want him dead." said Lucius Malfoy banging his fist on the table.

"Please tell me how things have changed. I will help you only when I seem satisfied with your answer, Mr Malfoy." said Dumbledore, now looking at him.

Lucius took a deep breath and closed his eyes, "Since my last failure he has repeatedly put me down in ranks and have insulted me many times. I don't care whatever he does to me. What matters to me, is my family. He looks at my wife with bad intention of touching her pure soul and using her as a toy.................(There was deadly silence in the room, he later continued). He gave Draco, the Dark Mark and have ordered him to kill you. You know if he doesn't fulfills the task, the consequence would be DEATH , ie he will torture him to death. He used nearly 10 Cruciatus curse on my wife. Her body is not responding, she is very weak physically and mentally. Please , I beg you keep them safe, Narissca and Draco. I'm willing to serve you. I'll do anything but please promise me that you'll keep them safe." pleaded Lucius.

"Can you share your memory, Mr Malfoy? I wish to see it myself," requested Dumbledore. That pained Lucius, he nodded and gave him his memories. After watching the memories, Dumbledore felt sympathetic towards The Malfoy's . Not only Voldemort was using their home as his operating centre, but was also torturing the family. He was indeed a vile monster, who mastered in cruelty.

"I can help you Mr Malfoy, only if you help me. This can put your own life at risk, but this is the only way I can see to defeat Voldemort. Do you promise me ?" asked Dumbledore, looking straight into Lucius eyes. "I promise you, I will risk my life if  needed to protect my family from him." said Lucius firmly.

"We shall now make an unbreakable vow. If you break this vow, Mr Malfoy, you know death will greet you in the most terrible way." said Dumbledore, approaching Lucius. "I agree, to your terms Dumbledore. We can proceed with the vow." said Lucius, who now seemed relieved that he will get a chance to safe his family from the clutches of Voldemort.

They proceeded with the vow. Before leaving the office, "I can't keep my wife at the manor for more than a day, he will kill her. Please take her now, to any safe place." pleaded Lucius, the urgency in his tone was very evident.
"I have a suggestion, Prof Dumbledore. If you please allow me." asked Prof McGonagall. Dumbledore nodded and motioned her to continue.

"I believe Muggles will be the best option"
