His Secret [Completed]

Original: Chapter 33- 25th Birthday

Exiting the building I felt the coldness strike my skin and pulled my coat around me tightly, at least it will be warmer in Hawaii. Kelly trailed along behind, annoyed that I pulled her away from the 'fit guys' as she put it. At least now I am $12,000 richer than before, even though I don't agree with what Noah did. I haven't actually earned that extra $4000 that he gave me and the fact that it did, makes me feel quite cheap. Either way though, the money will circulate back into his family because the first thing I will do when we get back is pay James back for the clothes he bought.

The rest of the month went pretty quickly and before I knew it it was the 22nd of August- my birthday! I hadn't seen Noah since I picked up the money, but that was mainly because I chose to be 'busy' when he visited the Mckenzie household- which wasn't often at all. 

As I was getting dressed ready to head into the house from the boathouse, I heard a loud clattering from below and a muffled 'crap'

"Kelly?" I yelled over the balcony while looking below, and surely enough Kelly stood below looking up at me amongst a pile of boxes causing me to burst into laughter. 

"I had a bit of an accident," she admitted trying to pick all of the boxes up "I hope nothing is broken" 

I gave her a hand and told her that it was only clothes and she doesn't need to worry about it. "What are you doing here anyway, I was just coming to the house to eat breakfast?" 

"Mother told me to keep you here and stall you for as long as possible...which I wasn't supposed to tell you" Kelly sighed placing her hand on her forehead signalling she was annoyed at herself. 

I tried to get more information out of Kelly but she kept her mouth shut this time and refused to tell me anything, all I knew was that I was hungry and if I didn't get food soon I would be forced to eat the spam which I found in one of the cupboards.

 Around 20 minutes later Kelly suddenly said I could leave, and we walked together to the house for breakfast. 

"Happy Birthday Sophia!" Everyone screamed as I entered, Mrs Mckenzie was holding a birthday cake proudly, she must have made it- maybe that was what was taking so long. 

"Jasmine? I can't believe you are here, is this why you kept cancelling on our coffee plans?" I laughed and she nodded. When Jasmine arranged for us to have coffee 2 weeks ago, she suddenly cancelled on me saying that she had to work, so we arranged for the following week and this time she cancelled saying that Derek was ill and she needed to care for him.

Jasmine explained that she couldn't meet for coffee because she was never good at keeping secrets and would have spoiled the whole surprise, but little did she know Kelly almost just did the exact same thing. 

Looking around the room I noticed there was only one person I knew who was missing and that was Noah- of course, I wouldn't have expected him to be here even if his family had invited him, but you would think he might have cared just enough just to turn up.

"Thank you for this, it means a lot- seriously I haven't had this many people celebrate my birthday since I was a lot younger" I said beginning to tear up at the thought of how happy my family was, when my little brother Ethan was alive we would all celebrate by going to pizza hut for lunch and then my parents would take me to the mall to chose anything I wanted (within our price range.) It was the one time in the year apart from Christmas I could have anything my heart desired.
