Christmas Day- Sophia aged 14
It was 6am on Christmas morning and the Jenkins family were all asleep. An alarm went off in one of the rooms and 14 year old Sophia and 12 year old Ethan came running down the stairs and jumped from the 3rd step to the bottom. They raced each other to the living room where the presents were tucked under the tree ready for this day.
"Sophia look!" Ethan screamed pulling a long rectangular box from under the tree "I hope it's the skateboard I asked for"
Sophia grinned at her brother knowing what was in the box.
"We should wait for mom and dad to wake up before we open them" She said, but Ethan was so impatient that he ripped open the paper revealing the skateboard and he screamed in excitement.
Mr and Mrs Jenkins then entered the living room rubbing their eyes, obviously being woken up from all of the excitement over the presents.
"Thank you so much!" Ethan said and ran to his parents and hugged them both tightly
"You are welcome darling" Mrs Jenkins said hugging her son back "Maybe later we can all take a trip to the park so you can test out your new skateboard"
Ethan jumped up and down in excitement where as Sophia just sat on the sofa by the tree waiting to open her presents. She had always been the type of girl who would feel joy from others happiness but on this occasion she seemed upset and more distant than usual for a teenage girl.
"Are you going to open that honey?" Mr Jenkins asked Sophia and she shook her head "Why?" He questioned
"I want to remember this moment forever, I don't want it to be ruined" Is all she could say and her mother gasped causing everyone to look at her.
"The doctors have told us we have another few years..." Mrs Jenkins said, now crouching next to Sophia by the sofa "...he isn't scared so you shouldn't be, there is nothing else the doctors can do for Ethan. Just look at him he is happy. We should live in the present not the future. Of course we will all miss him, but you can't put of the inevitable. If he lives for any longer than they have said it will truly be a Christmas miracle" She told Sophia wisely lifting her spirit slightly.
The Jenkins had found out that Ethan had terminal cancer 2 years prior and there is no treatment that can help, but the boy kept on fighting for his life and lived it as normal as possible.
"Come on Sophia, it's your turn to open yours" Ethan said plopping down next to her
Sophia glanced around the room taking in everything of this special day and carefully teared the wrapping paper from the present. On the tag it said Love Ethan which made Sophia smile. Inside the paper was a picture frame which held a photograph of Ethan and Sophia 3 years ago at his birthday party. Ethan was dressed as a pirate and Sophia was a fairy princess.
Sophia took one look at the photograph and burst into tears, but these were tears of happiness of fond memories. Sophia wrapped her arms around her brother and hugged him tightly not wanting to lose him, but she and her whole family knew that it would happen eventually and they were okay with it. They just knew that they had to live life to the fullest while their dear son and brother was still with them.
"Mom can we go to the park straight after lunch please?" Sophia asked her mother and she agreed. Although their family wasn't wealthy and never had been but they were scraping by, money didn't matter to them all that did matter was spending time witch each other regardless whether it would be cut short sooner or later.
"Let's go" Ethan said pulling on his coat, scarf and hat with skateboard in hand. It was after lunch and the Jenkins set off to the park to celebrate the time that they had together. Ethan was a natural skater, he was already so confident skating around showing his parents what he could do while they sat on a bench holding hands and having a loving conversation. This was truly what Christmas was about; spending time with family and making the most of what you have.

A/N
Hey everyone, so this is a shorter chapter because it's not too relevant to the story and this was the best way I could create a Christmas chapter.
Too many people Christmas is only about presents and people forget the true meaning. Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus and although I go to church I also believe the most important meaning of Christmas is spending time with family and make the most of it because one day you will regret the times you didn't. (Wow that got deep XD)
Anyway Merry Christmas!!!!
