I sat in Kelly's room waiting, she told me to stay here until she got back. In the half an hour she was gone I had managed to read 3 more chapters of the book that was on her bedside table. I've got to say I'm pretty impressed with it so far, who knew being a lawyer could be so fun. Maybe this is my destined career path, you know to be a lawyer and help innocent people.

With the 250,000 dollars, this could be what Nana wanted me to do. Invest in a law firm of some sort but is that really what I want? Ever since I was in high school I've had my sights set on being a journalist. I studied so hard to get a scholarship so that I could follow my dream and I can't just throw that all away.

But a job is a job after all and I need one badly. So if law is my gateway to successful journalism then I guess I have to grasp that opportunity and hope it leads somewhere else.

"It's yours," Kelly grinned entering the room.

"Seriously?" I was stunned, how can Mr Mckenzie just hire on the spot without even giving me an interview. Did he really have that much faith in me?

"Yeah, he said you start Monday,"

I was so grateful in this moment to actually have a friend who has my best interests at heart. She knew that I was willing to do whatever it takes to find a job so she asked her parents to give me an opportunity. It's not exactly what I was hoping for, I was hoping I could find a job on my own without having to get anyone else involved but as they say the more people you know the better.

"Where's your Dad I need to go and thank him?"

"He's in his office, meet me back here in a bit okay?"

I made my way downstairs and knocked lightly on Alan's study door, "come in"

"Hey umm, I just wanted to thank you. You and your family have done so much for me. I don't think I can ever repay you," I began

"Sophia sit down please," Alan gestured to the chair in front of his desk. "I want to help you as much as possible, I believe that you have a true talent inside of you and a way with people. You've been such a good role model for the twins and for that Sherry and I can't thank you enough."

My eyes started to water, Alan is the father figure I never had. He is caring, compassionate and kind whereas my father was a drunk gambler who never had the time of day for me unless he was demanding I get him another beer from the fridge.

"You start Monday, even though you live with us at work we'll treat you the same as any other employee. So do your job properly because I really don't want to have to fire you? Okay, sweetie?"

I nodded in agreement, "I won't let you down."

I stood to exit the room but he called me back. "Have you decided what you want to do with the money yet? Sorry if I'm being invasive again but I don't want to see you get into trouble with it."

"Well, Kelly suggested to invest it as it's better for the long run but I'm still not sure," I told him truthfully.

"She is a smart girl, always learning from her father and brother," he chuckled, "on a serious note that is a good way to use that amount of money, you can turn over a profit after a while."

"I'm just not sure what to invest in because I don't know anything about that stuff."

"I'd be more than happy to help you," Alan suggested.

We talked about the money and what I could invest it in. It felt as if he really cared about my future like a true father should. He's the father figure I have always wanted not one that holds you back from achieving your true potential.
