Sophia's POV:
The private plan was huge, leather seats lined the walls with mahogany tables. The chairs looked so inviting and I could see myself curled up reading for the whole 12 hours while we were stuck in here.
I knew there would be tension in the air from the moment I agreed to go on this trip as Kelly's plus one. It was amazing that I was gifted with the opportunity to tag along but I couldn't help but feel like I am going to become a burden to the family who are obviously in need of some serious bonding time.
Having Mason here with me does make it more bearable I must admit, he is in the same position as me- a plus one. Yet, although he came as Jack's plus one it does feel like he is more of Kelly's. Don't get me wrong I am happy that they are dating but gosh can they not get a room, or at least keep their hands off of each other just for this flight. We had only just stepped into the plane and they were already hugging, kissing and doing any other coupley things that were appropriate to do in public (well more appropriate than sex anyway).
Mrs Mckenzie was the first to greet her son, followed by Noah's Dad and then his siblings. His eyes had not met mine yet but I knew he had seen me.
The way his body tensed after he shook hands with Mason was not only because he was clearly suspicious of him but because we had not been in the same room since that night he kissed me in a way that meant 'goodbye forever'.
As soon as Mason was out of view our eyes connected and my breath caught in my throat, with a quick reminder to myself that this was nothing but a friendly gesture I padded over to him and said in the most friendly tone I could possibly produce "Hi Noah, thanks for the vacation."
I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and embraced him in an awkward hug- well it was almost awkward since he stood there frozen for a good second until he lifted his hands and wrapped them around my waist pulling me in even closer so that I was now flush against his muscular body. I was the first to pull away after a mere 2 seconds.
2 seconds was an appropriate length for a friendly hug right?
After an awkward stare and a cough from Noah, I took a seat in the chair opposite Noah who was lifting his Laptop onto his lap.
I reached into my bag and pulled out my copy of 'The Handmaid's Tale' a book I first read in college and has been my favourite dystopian of all time. It is truly an amazing book, the pages are starting to fall out now though so I might have to invest in a new copy when I get back.
I put my glasses on and began to read from where I left off.
I could feel his eyes boring into me as I read, I didn't look up though. I just kept re-reading the same lines over and over, this is the sort of effect he had on me- he made me lose sight of everything, break concentration, lose touch with who I really was.
Most of the time though my brain and actions do not work together and I do things that I had not wanted to, like just now, my eyes betray me and I peer over the top of the book locking eyes once again with my former lover, boss, roommate.
I half smiled, half frowned.
He typed something on his laptop rapidly and then spun it around to face me, it read;
Come with me
A disgusted look crossed my face, what position was he in that gave him the right to order me around. Yes he had paid for this vacation but does he really think he can command anyone like this.
As if he knew what I was thinking he mouthed the words I rarely heard him ever say; 'please'
I nodded as if falling back into his spell. The same spell that had been cast over me the moment I met him. The spell I had finally been able to see through after the ordeal with Brooke and her 'possession' over Noah.
