Original: Chapter 48 - To Win You Have To Lose

Noah's POV

"Can you hear me?" Lia's quiet voice sounded in my ear.

I looked out of the window of Lia's squad car and gave her a thumbs up. Kelly then said the same and I repeated the gesture. They were each wearing small microphones the size of pins- Lia says that they are 'top of the range' police gadgets.

The microphones were Lia's smart idea. The fact that they had been signed out by the station's tech department in working order means that the proof gathered on it will be 100% justifiable for court when it comes to that.

Court...that's a constant thought circulating throughout my mind ever since Brooke first threatened my family. Now the time has finally come; this will make or break our chances now. I've been risking my own safety for a week and I've been okay with that, but now I'm risking my sister's safety.

I'm putting my sister in a dangerous position, no one knows what they would do if they happen to find the microphone. If he's willing to torture and abuse a woman for 3 years while in college there's reason to believe he's capable of something more malicious.

"I'm shitting myself..." Kelly whispered under her breath as if it were meant for herself rather than me to hear. Lia who was scoping the area and making sure we could get a clear signal through the microphones from where I am, jumped back into the car and settled in the driver's seat.

I went to reply but stopped. Kelly can't hear me. My words of encouragement and comfort will be pointless, and even they were wearing an earpiece nothing can calm their nerves at this stage in the plan. It's a risk all three of us are taking. If things go wrong Lia could lose her job, Kelly's shot at becoming a top end lawyer and I... Well if I lose everything it'll still be worth it, but for the sake of those I love, this has to work.

Our plan was simple. My P.I gathered all of the information on Brad, the information gathered though is also available to the police force. However I only pay for the best and expect to receive it, so I had my team do a little more digging and they located a phone number linked to a burner phone. Calls can't be traced and neither can text messages, therefore, our initial plan to use that phone as a tracer will not work.

Having Kelly involved is definitely not my first choice, but if there's anything I've learnt from Sophia it's that there are just somethings you can't do on your own. It was obvious from the moment she called me immediately after she was being kicked out of her apartment. She isn't afraid to ask for help when she needs it but at the same time Sophia is independent. It's an admirable quality.

I look up into my mirror trying to compose myself. A light shining in the mirror catches my eye from quite a distance away. It's time.

I raised my hand out of the window and put 3 fingers up showing the rough time it would take for the vehicle to reach Kelly. The place the plan is going down was decided by someone working with Brad; as if this scene was taken straight from a movie, the meeting place was decided to be at an abandoned building near the docks. I made sure to park my car out of sight with the lights switched off, that way if I had to make a quick escape it was easy to not be caught, I'm not sure why Lia suggested that though. There is no way I will leave the people I love...not again.

As the car approached from behind on the road I kept my head down, just in case the car is spotted I won't be seen.

I hear a small gasp, my heart skipped a beat. Nerves kicked in as I watched from a distance too far for my liking but Lia insisted this is where we wait, it's safer this way she said. Regardless of where we are my sister is still in danger and it's my fault.

A silver Audi A8 broke within meters of my sister causing dust to fly into the air. It was clearly an intimidation technique. From what I could see Kelly kept a straight face, but I knew she was scared. You'd have to have a death wish if you weren't scared of someone like Brad.
