"We have to find Hawkmoth." Adrien said to me.I choked on my water. "What?!"
"I'm serious, Marinette. You saw what happened when I lost control. We can't risk that happening again."
I sighed. "You're right. Well, I have to get to school, Adrien. Maybe you can start looking into it?"
Adrien smiled and kissed my cheek. "Of course, Princess."
I grinned and waved as I left the bakery, the small bell ringing as I opened the door.
I walked to school, my heart pounding. It was the first time I would be back since I stopped showing up. I knew it wouldn't be the same as it used to be. And sure enough, as soon I stepped into my classroom, the whole room went quiet.
"Welcome back, Marinette." Ms. Bustier smiled sweetly at me.
I shook her hand quickly before hurrying to my seat which hadn't been touched since the last time I had been there. Alya leaned over to me.
"I'm glad you were able to come, Mari." She whispered.
I gave her a thumbs up. "I'll be here until graduation." I whispered back to her.
The school day was seemingly normal until lunch rolled around. People had begun to ignore me as they had for the past three years. At lunch, though, Chloe came over.
"Welcome back, Maritrash." She smirked.
I laughed inside. Nothing she said to me could compare to everything I had gone through over the past months. "Hey, Chloe."
"What were you doing this time? Did you finally figure out that you were worthless and lock yourself in your room?" She cackled.
I thought for a moment. "Actually, that's pretty spot on."
Chloe looked flustered. "Wha-? I mean! Whatever! Don't talk to me, loser."
Alya laughed as she walked away. I shrugged. "Her loss."
When I returned home that day, I found Adrien lying on the couch with his eyebrows furrowed. He was typing viciously on my laptop. I leaned over his shoulder, giving him a peck on the cheek.
"What are you up to?"
He smiled and gave me a kiss. "I'm just seeing if I can find anything about Hawkmoth. How was school?"
I pushed him over a little so there was room on the couch for me to lie down. Adrien closed the laptop and turned to face me so our noses were almost touching. "It was good. Everything went back to how it usually is."
Adrien leaned in and kissed me once more. I closed my eyes and kissed back, grinning at the sweet taste of his lips. He wrapped his arms around my waist, and I placed my hands on his cheeks, tilting my head slightly, our kiss deepening. He pulled away and leaned his forehead against mine.
"Did you know that I love you?" He whispered, his breath mingling with mine
I giggled. "I did. And I love you too."
I just wanted to lay there forever, never letting go of the man I loved so much. I wanted him to hold me in that place until we both withered away.
If only it could have been that way.
