CarsonThe next day Reyes wakes us up to give us our 'jobs'. As we walk to the mess hall the General walks out ready to assign us our 'jobs'.
"Nate... Supply runs. Reyes will notify you if we need any more supplies there will be others with you as well. Carson... Training. Every morning you will head to the training room at 7:30 to help Reyes with training the others. Laney... Nurse. Every time one of these guys come in with an injury you will treat... Including a bite as best you ca-"
"A bite?!!? There is no treatment for a bite. If someone is bitten you kill them. I don't care, I'm not risking her life nor anyone else's!!" I yell.
"Carson it's-" Laney tries to say.
"No Laney. Carson is right. By trying to treat a bite... It's only going to risk not only your life but others as well." Riley says.
"Fine. Miss Carson we'll do what is safer." The general says.
"What!?!? No!! We started to try to treat people to find a cure!" Reyes exclaims.
"There is no cure, Reyes! No. Cure! If there was, don't you think we'd be curing people by now!? No one would be suffering!!" I said speaking the truth.
"Carson, I'll be fine really." Laney says trying to calm me down.
"Fine. But if you get hurt in any way possible" I pause to look at the general, "I will be putting a bullet between your eyes!"
He nods and continues, "And Riley... You will be working with Reyes and Carson. Mostly because every other job is full at the moment. Now you are all dismissed. You start tomorrow." And with that he stalks off.
"Well... Moody much?" Nate says sarcastically.
"He gets like that when someone tells him the truth." Reyes says sadly.
"Look I'm not sentimental but... Are you ok? You look a little down." I ask.
"The general, or my dad, isn't really himself anymore. Ever since we lost my mom to this shit, he's been distant. He's not himself anymore, he used to be do happy, didn't care what any body thought of him, and really weird. Like really weird. But the day we lost mom... It's like he lost himself. His other half of his heart. He's not happy. He's not his weird self. And now he cares what others think. He's just not here anymore." He replies sadly.
"I'm... Sorry. I know what it's like to lose someone. We all do. Before we came here we lost out friend James. He was like a father and brother in a way. He was bitten and he shot himself. I lost my best friend, my boyfriend, and my parents." I tell him.
"I lost my parents even though they didn't care about me any more... It's still hurt when they died cause I mean they were the only ones who were actually there for me. Even when they weren't." Laney said.
"I lost my parents and I couldn't kill my sister after she turned." Riley said. Nate sighed, "I lost my two little sisters, my half little twin brothers, my mom, and my stepfather. Had to kill every single one of them." His eyes fell to floor.
"Our friend, James, lost his fiancé, family, and friends. He was about to get married the day this all started. He left the church, went home, grabbed his gun, and locked the door. I don't know why but he did." I said tearing up thinking about him, Kayla, Andrew, and my parents.
"We should head back to the bunks. It's getting late and you guys start your 'jobs.' Tomorrow." He said using quotations with his fingers.
We all head off to our bunks only to see each other tomorrow.
