Chapter Seventeen

Riley

I don't know how to feel. Damien. Damn. What am I thinking? I thought that Damien was hot before but I can't feel this way. Not now. Not ever. It's impossible to feel like this in the apocalypse. You fall for someone then you will do ANYTHING to make sure they are safe. But then you put them in a life time of pain because you yourself died. There's risks always risks. Now those risks are higher than before. I can't be with Damien even if I tried or wanted to.

Carson

I swear Damien and Riley are going to get together. I saw that wink Damien gave Riley. So I did the only other thing a girl could do: confront one of them.
"So Damien." He turned around. He looked confused.
"Yes?" He drug out the E.
"Do you happen like my friend?"

Damien

"So Damien." I turned around. I am incredibly confused.
"Yes?" I drug out the E.
"Do you happen like my friend?" Carson asked. My eyes widened she couldn't possibly know, could she? So I played stupid.
"Who? Laney?" She shook her head.
"No." She drug out the word. "Riley." That's when I knew she saw the wink I threw at Riley.
"Shit." I mumbled.
"HA! I knew it!!" She yelled.
"Shhhhhh no one knows Carson." I whisper yelled.
She sunk down. "Sorry." She smiled sheepishly.
"Besides it's not like you don't like Nate." I smirked as her eyes widened. "Don't lie to me Drake." She sighed.
"Ok yes, I do but it's not going to happen. I've seen the way he's looked at Kayla times before. And besides, hello the world has been taken over by dead people." She looks so upset.
"Have you liked Nate since him and Kayla were together?" I asked cautiously. She looked down. There's my answer.
"Hey, it's ok. Even if it doesn't work out it doesn't mean you shouldn't try." I bring her head up.
"I guess you're right, but the same goes for you." I pull her into a hug.
"Thanks Damien."
"You're welcome Carson." After that she walks away buck to her barrack.

Nate

I walk into the mess hall and I hear two voices.
"Shhhhhh no one knows Carson." One whisper yelled.
"Sorry."
"Besides it's not like you don't like Nate. Don't lie to me Drake." The other sighed.
"Ok yes, I do but it's not going to happen. I've seen the way he's looked at Kayla times before. And besides, hello the world has been taken over by dead people." They sound so upset.
"Have you liked Nate since him and Kayla were together?" The man asked cautiously.
"Hey, it's ok. Even if it doesn't work out it doesn't mean you shouldn't try." I turn the corner. It's Carson and Damien. He brings her head up.
"I guess you're right, but the same goes for you." I pull her into a hug.
"Thanks Damien."
I walk back a few feet and act like I'm just entering the hall. I bump into Carson not purposely, I swear!
"Hey Carson."
"Hey."
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah..hey can we talk later?"
"Yeah sure. What about?" Just then the alarm went off.
"We'll talk about this later." I nodded. Just then Damien came running towards us.
"We need to go find the others. There has never been an alarm blaring all the way through the mess hall."  He says worriedly.
"Let's go." I follow after Carson and Damien to the lab where the alarm was pulled. Once we got there we were all shocked.
