Chapter Nineteen

Damien

What ever he did to her, he's going to pay. I know right now the way, things are in this fucked up world are horrible, but that does NOT give him the right to do hurt anyone.

"What did you do to hurt her?" I yelled at him. He turned and looked at me.
"Oh come on Damien don't tell me you're on her side. She's lying." He said.
"If she was lying then why was she scared of you when you walked in the room.'' i pointed my finger at him.
"I did nothing to her. So you better back off before I throw you out to the dead. OR better yet her. How would you like that Damien huh?'' I didn't say anything. I seen him smirk, god how I wish I could punch that smirk right off his face.
"There you go Damien obey like the dog you are." And with that statement he left.

I found the others right where I them. Carson noticed me first.
"So? Anything?" i just walked past her and over to Nate.
"There's nothing I can do. If I try anything else he's going to throw Laney out with the dead. I'm sorry. He wouldn't fess up." After I said that I left. I couldn't stand seeing Laney so scared or sad so i had to leave.

"Damien! Damien!" I turned around seeing Riley trying to catch up with me. So I stop for him to catch up. "Hey you left suddenly. Why's that?" He asked.
"There's nothing i can do for he Riley. NOTHING! Even if I try in the slightest he will throw her out and left for dead only to become one of those things!" After I had practically yelled at him he did something I thought he would never do.

Riley

"Damien! Damien!" He turned around seeing me trying to catch up with him. So he stopped for me to catch up. "Hey you left suddenly. Why's that?" I asked.
"There's nothing i can do for he Riley. NOTHING! Even if I try in the slightest he will throw her out and left for dead only to become one of those things!" After he had practically yelled at me, I did something I thought I would never do. I kissed the corner of his mouth. Wow never did I ever think I could be gay or at least Bi. But I can't get attached. If I do it will be ripped away from me. This world is dead. There's nothing I can do. If I get close to him, he could be ripped away from me.
But what if getting close isn't as bad I think?
Shut up me! I can't like him. I can't. What if he died like my sister? What if he gets bitten and I can't save him? What if I die and he has to deal with the pain? What if something bad happens to him? So many what ifs running in my head. I can't think about that right now. I have to look out for myself, but I want to look out for him too.

Carson
I snuck out of the base after Damien ran off when he came to us about the news. I ran off. I ran to the main part of the city to get supplies. Bullets, weapons, vaccinations, medical supplies, water, food. I brought a total of two bags with me and duffel bag for the weapons.
After an hour or two of walking I found a store, not as big as Walmart but reasonably big. I opened the main doors as quickly and quietly as possible and went in. I found the water and put at least two jugs in one bag, I found the food. I put as much as I can in with the water jugs and put the rest in the other bag. As I was putting more food in the bag I heard a groan At least an isle away. I got out my knife and waited for it to come around the corner. When it did I kicked it in the knees and then stabbed it in the head.
"Okay that's my cue to leave." I grabbed my bags and headed for the doors. As I did though I seen a hoard outside the doors. There is no way I could possibly get through that. Those windows are week. They'll be in here within minutes. Just as I thought that I heard a crack and windows breaking.
"Shit." I said. I turned and high tailed it outta there.
"Okay Carson, find the back doors. Come on!" I ran to the back of the store to find my way out. There were doors but boarded from the outside, there's no way I can get through.
"Okay, find the stairs to the roof." I went to the back where the storage area was. I found the stairs to the roof and climbed up. I shut hatch and locked it. That won't hold very long. I ran to the edge. There has to be a way off besides jumping and putting myself in danger. I look over to my left, nothing but cardboard boxes. Too much noise. I look over to my right, wood pallets bolted together, only way out. I climb down carefully with one bag on my shoulder and one on my back and the duffel bag in my hand.
After i got down I booked it out of the parking lot to find the nearest weapons shop. I began walking down the road, luckily after about a mile or two I found what I was looking for. I walk into the shop and look around. I pick up a couple of mags, AKs, pistols, berettas, silencers, knives, matches, everything I could find and put fit into the bag. As I was walking out I heard a gun being loaded. I slowly turn around to a boy about my age.
"Drop the bag. I don't want to have to shoot." I could tell he was nervous.
"Look I don't want any trouble. I'm on a supply run for the people I'm staying with. My name is Carson Drake, I'm 18 I went to Whitney High School before this whole thing started. I'm just looking out for my friends."
"Whitney High? I went there. My name is Kaden James. I was a junior before this happened"
"Remember you. You were in my AP chemistry class." I say.
"Carson? As in the girl who blew up chemicals for fun and had the fire department come?" Kaden said.
"Yeah it's me." I say.
"Never though I'd say this but fuck am I glad to see you."
"Look I have a base about three miles away from here. You can come with me and you'll be safe."
"I don't know..what if you're luring me to my death?"
"Look I know I blew up some shit in class but I won't hurt you unless you try to hurt me." I reassure him. "Come on Kaden it beats being out here alone."
He looked like he was considering it and I could tell he was unsure but he could trust me.
"Okay, I'll come with you. On one condition."
"Alright what is it?" I ask.
"Laney, she's a junior in my class. You have to help me find her. Shy girl, brunette hair, short, green eyes, best friends with the all star of school, Nate?" He said.
"She's at the base Kaden. She's been with me for while. I can take to you to her." I told him.
"Okay, Okay come on. I hate this place."
After that was said he left. We began walking the three miles back to the base. Once we got back Damien saw me.
"Carson! Where the hell have you been." He ordered. I said nothing as I dropped the bags in front of him.
"Weapons, food, and water?" He asked.
"I was looking for medical supplies and vaccinations, but I got cut off by a hoard." I replied.
"Why the hell did you leave on your own?" He asked more calmly.
"I had to get away from everything. The general, the drama. I had to leave so I did. And this what I brought back. Along with him." I said as I pointed to Kaden.
"Who's this?" Damien asked.
"I'm Kaden James. I was a junior that went to Whitney High with Carson sir." Kaden held his head high and tried to speak with confidence.
"Okay dude you're gonna need to get checked out and take a shower. After you'll eat then in the morning I'll assign you to your job."
"No! I need to find Laney!" Kaden bursted.
"Kaden I'll take you to her once you're checked out ok?" I told him. He looked at me for a minute but then sighed in defeat, "Okay."
"Okay then. That's settled, let's get you cleaned up" Damien told him.
