______________
The weeks leading into February were not bright ones. The days were cold and dreary; rain streaked the windows and thunder rumbled aggressively in the clouds. Sometimes, you could even see lightning flitting across the sky.
"Lu, can I copy your Potion's homework?"
Aludra moved her gaze from the window to Ron, who was staring at her pleadingly. "Ron, you know it's not that hard. You're just being lazy," she chided gently. Ron threw his head back and groaned.
"You're worse than my mum and Hermione combined!" he complained. "Who wants to write a whole scroll of homework?"
"I wrote two," Aludra said. "And no one wants to - well, unless you're Hermione - but we have to. I'm trying my hardest to get points for Gryffindor so that we win the House Cup!"
"Well there's no point in trying to get points from Snape. He'd rather snap his own wand in half than give us a chance of winning the Cup," Ron said, crinkling up his nose. Aludra giggled and then shrugged.
"Well who's to say there's no point in trying? Now, if you would like me to help you do your homework, I would be more than happy to do so." Aludra offered. Realising that this was the best offer he'd get out of anyone, Ron grunted and went over to the coffee table where he was previously studying with Seamus, Dean and Harry, explaining that he was going to be tutored by Aludra instead.
"Aludra's helping you? I need help, too!" Harry exclaimed, collecting his ink, quill and parchment. The other too boys followed suit and returned with Ron, looking at Aludra pleadingly. She didn't even have to read their minds to know what they wanted; she laughed and snapped her book shut, sitting cross-legged on the floor. The four boys spread themselves and their papers out on the ground also, looking at Aludra expectantly.
"Okay, so who can tell me one of the four properties of Flobberworm mucus?" she asked in a very teacher-like voice. The boys exchanged looks with each other, and then looked back at Aludra dumbfounded.
"We dunno," Ron said blankly. Aludra cleared her throat and sat up straighter.
"Please open your copies of Magical Drafts and Potions to page 13," she instructed politely.
"Yes, Professor Malfoy," Harry grinned. Aludra laughed and thought that she quite liked playing teacher. Perhaps this could be a career choice for her when she grew up!
"Uh...It thickens potions?" Seamus said uncertainly. Aludra clapped her hands together.
"Excellent, Mr Finnigan, one-hundred points to Gryffindor!" she exclaimed. Dean snorted.
"If only!" he said. "How do we put the thickening potions thing into writing?"
"Well, how much have you written?" Aludra asked, and then sighed. "Nothing at all? Alright, start off with the date, subject and your names, first of all..."
The portrait hole swung open, and everyone was met with a very strange sight indeed. Neville Longbottom hopped inside, legs stuck together and struggling to gain his balance.
