"Go take a look around!" Keith's adoptive mother called, cleaning the house. They had just recently moved from Texas to Arizona, so there wasn't much of a heat difference.

"No way. It's hot out." Keith argued, bouncing his leg while playing a game on his phone.

"You're the one wearing black." Donna argued

"Sorry that it's basically all the clothes that I own." Keith grumbled.

"Well, you need to go outside. I don't care what you say, you need some fresh air." Donna argued. "And that's final"

Keith grumbled a bit, stuffing his phone into his pocket and heading out the front door. A few seconds after he left his house, he was already feeling the effects of the heat. Keith luckily had an array of bracelets and hair ties around his wrist, there for convenience. He used one of the hair ties to pull his hair up into a tiny ponytail. It helped him cool off a tiny bit, but there wasn't much cooling off in a desert if you were outside. Keith stopped in his tracks after a small girl ran in front of him, followed by a young boy, probably only a few years older.

"I'm gonna get you!" The boy yelled.

"Never!" The girl screeched. The two continued to run, playing the perfect roles of cat and mouse.

"Aiden, Aila! Get your butts back over here!" A boy called, obviously the oldest of the three. "Sorry about these two, they're pretty annoying." The oldest said.

"It's fine, they didn't cause harm." Keith said, waving him off.

"Hmm, do you happen to go to Garrison High?" The boy asked.

"Yeah, my first day is tomorrow." Keith said, cocking his head. He didn't see where this was going.

"Sweet! I go there too!" The boy said. "Oh, my bad. I'm Lance, and you are?" The boy said, now identified as Lance.

"Keith, nice to meet you" Keith said, nodding his head at Lance.

"Ooh! What are these?" Lance asked, grabbing ahold of Keith's wrist. The bracelets bounced around a bit, before falling victim to gravity and hung loosely around Keith's wrist. "You listen to Panic! At The Disco?" Lance asked.

     "Yeah, why?" Keith asked.

"Me too!" Lance exclaimed. "This is so cool! Pidge and Hunk will get a kick outta this." Lance grinned.

"Who will get a kick out of what?" Keith asked.

"Just a few of my friends. You'll meet them tomorrow." Lance said, shrugging it off. The blazing sun was beginning to set, and Keith let out a long sigh.

"I better get going. Donna and Kevin will be worried sick if I don't get back soon." Keith said, turning on his heel.

"Alright, I'll see you tomorrow." Lance said, ushering his siblings inside. Before Keith could say anything else, Lance was gone without a trace. Keith began heading home, knowing that his parents were probably worried sick as is.

Do you guys like this book so far? I know, it's only one chapter in, and not much is known with just one chapter.

I'm aware that it's short, but I plan on making all the other chapters much longer.

I hope you enjoy the book!
