Entering my apartment I threw my keys into the glass dish while pulling at the hair band binding my long chocolate hair. I rustled it out with my fingers the curls reforming heading to the kitchen grabbing a wine glass and pouring myself a deep red wine. I may be only a month away from eighteen still being a few years under age but after the long day taking the SAT and my last shift at the restaurant. I was beat from the long month of courses I finally finished and graduated."Bitch, don't drink all the wine. I'm going to need some too." My roommate Arabella declared as she came into the kitchen from her room grabbing a glass as I poured her one as well.
"Long day too?" I asked as I took off my work vest draping it over the dining room chair as I flopped down on to the couch. Fiddling with my chokers pendant that was a blood stone. The leather smooth against my skin that I have worn all my life.
She followed suit taking a healthy galp dropping beside me. "I broke up with Aron." She said simply shaking her platinum waves as I marveled at the comment of her boyfriend of two years didn't truly affect her by the lose.
"You okay about it." I asked quietly with another sip toeing each heel off and resting my feet on the wood coffee table.
"The fucker was cheating on me practically the whole time with my Sic partner." She clarified downing the rest of her glass as her head rest on the back staring up at the popcorn ceiling.
"Well at least that was your last day of that course. Over summer you'll find someone better before classes start again. So what are you going to take next now that you've finished your associate's degree?" I pondered myself now having finished high school but didn't know what I even wanted to do in life.
"I did like Psychology even if it has a dirty stain on it now, but I'm determined to just bleach it and start anew. What about you? How do you feel about your SAT score?" She said brightening up as she turned her grey blue eyes on me.
"I feel good. A few questions and equations stumped me but otherwise enough to have a high score." I replied my glass now empty next to hers on the coffee table, laying back to stare at the popcorn ceiling wishing it was the stars instead but was too tired to move.
"So when are you going to leave for your trip?" She questioned poking me in the side as I sighed.
"About that, I don't know how long I'm going to be this time. I'm thinking about taking a year off before I start college." I said as amusement sparked in her eyes knowing she had done the same thing backpacking in Europe.
"Smart. You deserve it. Going to the mountains I take it." She replied knowing my plan already.
"I'm leaving a little before noon. You joining me for our run still in the morning?" Turning to her with a smile as I poured myself another glass downing it just as fast.
"Unfortunately I know even if I drink several more glasses I'll still wake early like a fucking rooster. Damn metabolism. So, ya! I'll be up with you." She replied with another poke and a mischievous smile.
"You know we can talk about it if you want. About Aron and all." I knew she had to be hurting and was just putting on a brave face. We have been roommates for my whole of high school having met my freshman year. Hers being her senior year. She convinced her parents to let her get an apartment for her last year as long as she had a roommate. With a few exchanges of words having bumped into her before class on the first day. Without a second thought that weekend I moved in not wanting to live with an ass of a man that I wasn't even related to.
After my parents death and having no blood relatives my father's best friend was all I had. For some odd reason they were friends, being complete opposites. He was also my fathers partner at his company that my father build from inventing random items from household help products to space equipment.
