The MC always participates in crucial battles and fights.
* I mostly disagree with this one. Unless you have multiple POVs, how the hell are you supposed to witness the story without the MC being there? Being told stuff second-hand is not fun and dull to write. As always, there can be exceptions. Perhaps the MC only witnessing the aftermath of a long, bloody battle, where the survivors crawl back into camp in complete silence, unable to recover the bodies of their Clanmates. At the same time, this is more of a "shock" plot point. Any deaths are made less impactful since we don't see them, and the MC feels less proactive.
