* OK, this can work just fine depending on context, i.e. Fireheart chosen as deputy after Bluestar loses trust in everyone else. A decision like this can also happen via manipulation, nepotism, older cats just refusing, etc. This can also lead to great conflict! The inexperienced deputies make mistakes, stirring resentment within the Clan. Maybe the more experienced warriors can agree with the decision, leading to more division, or also feel unjust, leading an attack against the deputy. Again, take the cliché and spin it out of control, don't just avoid them entirely.
