* I understand this too. In terms of every possible death, starvation is a little underwhelming. But man, at least imply the threat of starvation. Have cats skip meals, have them share the tiniest morsels. Mothers giving up their first meal in days for their kits, mates constantly sliding a mouse back and forth between them, elders reluctantly taking food from the pile given the code, leaders refusing to eat and letting starvation take one of their lives before they receive food from someone else. Put the bare back in leaf-bare.
