Stay – Zedd, Alessia Cara

_______________✏

"WHERE ARE THEY?" Salvatore came barging through the emergency room doors. He had barely waited for Stefano to stop the car pushing his door open to rush to Adriana's aid after the hospital had called trying to find someone who would respond.
Leaving Stefano to find a place to park Salvatore wasted no time, he needed to know what was going on. What had happened? The phone call had been so vague and quite frankly he didn't exactly stay on the line long enough to find out.

"Sir, can I help you?" A nurse from the area quickly approaching, he seemed very much out of sorts, something not particularly new to those passing through the emergency department.

"Yes. Adriana Di Dio. Where is she?" Short and straight to the point, he was very aware he was coming off blunt and didn't care in the absolute slightest.

"I'm not sure who that is." The nurse confessed calmly placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. "But let me lead you to the desk where we-"

"Out of my way!" Pushing past her he made quick ground himself taking long purposeful strides to the desk. He didn't have any patience right now, not an ounce. He needed to speak with someone who knew the information first hand.
"Adriana Di Dio!" Salvatore beamed reaching the desk in record time; he was a man on a mission.

"Salvatore?" A woman in scrubs sitting at the far end of the desk pipped up curiously.

"Yes! I'm Salvatore, are you the woman who called me?" Redirecting his attention from the main woman at the desk to now the one further away in scrubs, he waited not so patiently for more information.

Moving her paperwork to the side, the woman rose to her feet making her way over to him immediately seeing his agitation. "I'll take care of this one" she stated sweetly to her co worker before walking around the desk area to join Salvatore on the other side. "We should sit." Directing him through a set of double doors she showed him through to a quiet lounge area with coffee and tea making facilities.
"Can I get you a drink?"

"No." His response quick and very short.

Why was this woman stalling?

He watched her take a seat on one of the couches looking up at him expecting him to take a seat with her. "Where is she? Is she hurt?" He paced the small space of the kitchenette unable to keep still.

"Salvatore, take a seat so I can explain the situation."

"I'm just fine standing." He responded getting more and more frustrated by the second. Why wasn't she updating him on Adriana and where the hell was Luca?
"I swear if you don't start explaining I'm going to tear this room apart." His agitation quickly reaching an entire new level with each second that ticked by agonisingly slow.

"Adriana is fine, physically. A few cuts, she'll likely develop some bruising over the next few days, but other than that she didn't require a great deal of medical attention." Letting out a calm breath she looked up at him noticing the sheer look of relief slowly appearing on his face. There were so many elements to report on, the situation wasn't straight forward like many people hope for, this was a particularly difficult situation to explain.

"Well take me to her!" It was a command, certainly not a request. "Why are we in here? Jesus fückìng Christ!" Slamming a wrist on the kitchenette bench top he was becoming increasingly frustrated. Who was this woman dragging him to a secluded area when Adriana was fine and well waiting for him in another room.

"Salvatore, she's... Sleeping."

"Sleeping?" He shot her a look, a very unimpressed and now furious one. This woman was really testing his patience.

"She was upset, more than upset... She was hysterical and we had no choice but to sedate her." Standing to her feet now that it was apparent that he was not going to sit and join her, she continued to delicately explain. "It's not something we normally do, we don't like taking that route but we were unsuccessful getting in touch with family. Staff tried numerous times making phone calls, we believe her parents are out of the country?"

"Yes." Salvatore confirmed, "They're on vacation."

"After the ladies at the desk were unable to get a hold of family they told me that your number was the most called so that's obviously why I called you." Cautiously approaching him she continued. "She is going to wake up any time after the next two hours, and when she does it would be a good idea if you encourage her to stay with us over the next forty eight hours. It's likely she's going to feel overwhelmed, especially once the police arrive."

"Police?" Salvatore repeated instantaneously, his eyes now a little wider than a few seconds ago. "That's unnecessary, I'll take her home. Now take me to her and direct me to Luca, I assume he's still with her?" Turning his back to her he made his way closer to the double doors making it more than clear he was ready to cease all conversations immediately. He had had enough of these semi vague discussions, there was no reason she couldn't direct him to Adriana's room, especially if she was sedated. They were more than capable of having this discussion at her bedside.

"Luca?" The woman queried drawing him back in for what he hoped was the last time. "Is that the gentleman she was with this afternoon?"

Turning back to face her he nodded his answer, "yes... You can take me to him after I see Adriana."

"Salvatore, I'm sorry." Motioning her arms back towards the couch she invited him to sit once more. "We really should sit down."

"What exactly are you not telling me? For the last time I am not going to sit down!"

"Your friend Luca, he's our John Doe. He was killed instantly; there was nothing anybody could do."

He wasn't sure how it happened, but Salvatore ended up finally sitting on the couch beside her. It was cold, lonely and uncomfortable; or maybe that was just a combination of his current mood.
His ally, his right hand man, his best friend... Gone.

Their family had officially hit rock bottom. This all started with an attempt on Adriana's life, then his father and now Luca.

Why is this happening?

"Would you like a glass of water? Can I contact someone for you?"

His hands in his hair, gripping at the roots feeling as though he could literally pull the roots from his scalp. The pain would be nothing to what he was currently experiencing.

"Just take me toAdriana..."
