Chapter Song
The Prayer - Anthony Callea

"Your sister woke up," Luca blurted out wanting to put an end to the awkward silence. Salvatore was never particularly chatty in the past, but this was different, this felt awkward.
"She's sick as a dog though, in shock too, about your father."
"Don't you ever compare my sister to a dog again," Salvatore spat back breaking his silence, hostility still clear within his words.
"I-I didn't it's just an ex-"
"A fũcking stupid one!" He sank back deeper into the leather seat turning his head to look out the window, he was too angry to accept the fact that Luca was currently his driver.
"Why are you here? I told Francesco to call and tell you to make sure Adriana was safe." Without realizing, he began clenching his fists fighting against the instinct that told him to crack Luca a new one. "You had one job that was it. Now you're here? Why?"
"We've all been looking for you Salvo, I wasn't sent specifically, it was all hands on deck." He spoke slowly, diplomatically, trying to word his sentences correctly. Salvatore seemed far too angry to engage in such conversations so he had to be wise.
"Your brothers thought the worst, that whoever did all this got to you last night. They said you had been missing for hours" he watched as Salvatore continued to stare out his window, occasionally bringing his hand up to rub his temples frustrated.
"So you thought to check at Elena's. Because that's the kind of man I am right?" He pressed Luca suddenly wanting nothing more that to push him over the edge. It would provide him with a great excuse to go another round with him. Smash his head into the steering wheel unexpectedly. Not that he needed an excuse...
"The kind of man that fũcks whöres, right?"
"It's really none of my business. I'm just here to help."
"Of course you are!" He threw up his hands then dropped them back down to his legs slapping his thigh as if he had just been told the funniest joke. "You help out with everything, don't you Luca?" He was now facing him waiting patiently for his response.
He watched him take a deep breath in from his nose then exhale out very slowly from his mouth.
The car suddenly coming to a complete stop as they pulled into a parking bay.
"Let's get you a coffee boss."

Telling Salvatore that he had convinced Adriana to temporarily return to New York should have happened during their car ride. Or possibly over the coffee they stopped for. Or even once they had returned to Salvatore's apartment to shower and dress before heading to the Abandonato family home.
Now Luca stood immobile. He knew he should warn him, especially now after catching him out with Elena.
He suddenly began to regret pulling Adriana back in. It hadn't even occurred to him that the pair had been apart for a significant amount of time and Salvatore may have moved on.
Now he was responsible for dragging her back to New York City to see Salvatore with another woman. The same woman who had already tried to come between the pair.
Salvatore immediately made his way over to his sister and mother on the couch. He watched on as Giuseppa comforted her daughter, Matteo sitting quietly across from them with Lucia pressed up against his chest gently tapping her back comfortingly.
It had taken some convincing to remove Giuseppa from the New Jersey estate, but once she realized multiple detectives were constantly showing up to prolong their investigations, she finally caved and allowed her sons to take her home while a few men stayed back to watch over the Jersey estate.
