Chapter two- flirting with confidence
M I L L I E

"Okay," I sighed as I placed my hands on my hips. "How does this look?" I flattened my little floral dress that matched my pink high heels. I did my makeup and put effort into doing my hair for once.

"Damn Mills," Maddie smiles. "You look perfect." Hearing those words made me feel already ready for the day.

"Well let's get going then," I said as I grabbed my bag. "We don't want to be late." Maddie nodded then followed me out to her car.

I jumped into her car with a smile present. Maddie must have noticed since she let out a chuckle before driving.

"Remember," Maddie said as she focused on the road. "Find something to take your mind off of them. Just try to forget about them today." I nodded my head then gave her a thankful smile.

Quickly she pulled into the nearest parking space. Together we gathered our things then walked up to the school doors side by side.

We slowly walked into the school,
earning stars. I ignored them while I walked down the crowded hall, confidently.

I could hear the click sound coming from mine and Maddie's heels with every step we took. I walked over to my locker where I checked my hair that still looked perfect.

As I looked into my mirror, I could see a certain someone walking behind me distracting me.

God do I miss him.

"Mills," Maddie tapped my shoulder, snapping me out of my gaze. "We should probably get to class." I nodded my head then quickly shut my locker with a little to much force, drawing some attention to Maddie and I.

I quickly walked with Maddie, hoping no one cared.

A smile had been plastered onto my face by the time I entered my first class. I revived a few more stars, making my smile grow.

"Good morning students!" Me. Kerry said happily. I looked up from my phone and sighed. Why does school have to start so damn early?

"Today we will be covering..." I slowly dozed off, not all that interested in what we were doing today. I could see Maddie pretending to listen intensely.

I looked out the big window beside my desk, making me squint a little because of the sun. I slowly shut my eyes and laid my head down on my desk, trying to avoid some of the suns rays. Soon enough, I could feel my self drifting off to sleep.

"Millie wake up! Wake the hell up!" Maddie whisper yelled in my ear. My eyes shot up as I looked around the classroom to see that we were to only ones left.

"What happened?" I asked as I got up. I followed Maddie out of the class still confused on what had just happened.

"You fell asleep during Mr. Kerry's first period class. An assembly was called so he let you sleep through it." She sighed as she sat in a near desk.

I looked over to small clock that hung above the door and sighed. I slept through my entire first and second period, making it lunch.

I got up and quickly packed away my binder as I followed Maddie out of the classroom into the deserted hallway. I assumed everyone was in the cafeteria.

I slowly walked down
The hall with Maddie by my side, listening to the click sound my heels made. The sound use to annoy me but now they make me feel powerful.

We walked into the cafeteria and made our way over to our table. We greeted by Rowan and Noah.

"Hey guys." I smiled as I sat down. Rowan perked up and gave me a huge smile before she took another bite of her apple.

As I turned to my bag to pull out my lunch, my eye got caught on someone. He walked into the cafeteria with the rest of football team.

Over the summer, Finn took up football. He must of gotten pretty good at it considering he made our schools team.

I saw him look at me but quickly turn away. He went on laughed with the others as they walked in, making their way over to one of the tables.

I knew I shouldn't of kept watching him but I did. My eyes followed him as he made his way over to Sadie. I could feel the pit in my stomach getting bigger and bigger as I kept watching.

Why am I doing this to myself?

He pulled her close and closed the gap between them. I looked away, not wanting to see them anymore.

I looked over to Noah who must have saw me since he gave me a sympathetic smile. I forced one back, hoping he would believe it.
