XXIV: Road Trip

CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR: ROAD TRIP

Tahimik ang buong byahe. As minutes gone by, sila na lamang ang tanging gising. The five people at the back already fell asleep. They swam across the deep sea, who wouldn't be tired?

She wonders why Ishun's still driving despite of the swimming he had gone through. Hennessy felt her legs getting numb as minutes gone by. Paano nalang kay Ishun na nagdridrive pa at hindi mapahinga ang paa?

Hennessy was busy looking outside the window, passing through the street lights. They aren't in the city, that explains why hindi masyadong maliwanag ang paligid.

Without further ado, Hennessy pushed the button to bring the window down. The fresh air instantly attacked her face and blew her hair off her face.

Dahil sa mabilis na pagmaneho ni Ishun ay magaspang ang atake ng hangin sa kanyang mukha. But she was enjoying it.

The smell of the trees, that is, since the island is surrounded with sea, she only smelled the salty sea for two weeks or more. She kind of misses going road trip with herself, though.

Back in America, there were so many places you can go, kahit mag-isa ka. You don't need someone's company. You only need yourself to enjoy. Mostly, sa Miami siya nagpupupunta. She really enjoys staring at the sea, especially when the sun is setting.

For her, it's a sign of an end and another beginning with start. Sunset, for her, symbolizes hope. Mawala man, babalik rin naman ulit.

Nabaling ang atensyon niya at nabalik sa realidad dahil sa pagpeke ng ubo ni Ishun. When she looked at her, he was still staring at the road attentively.

She then pulled the button to bring the window up. Ramdam na ulit niya ang lamig ng aircon na naglilibot sa buong sasakyan.

"I'm sleepy..." Ishun hoarsely spoke. Napatingin siya dito at tumikhim. "It's been thirty minutes since you started driving. Sige, ako naman."

Hindi nagsalita si Ishun ngunit dinahandahan niyang hininto ang sasakyan sa gilid ng daan at binuksan ang pinto. That was the sign for Hennessy to open the door and let them switch their places.

Kaagad na sumakay si Hennessy sa driver's seat at nagsimula nang magdrive.

Buti nalang at automatic ang Montero na 'to, kung hindi ay mahihirapan siyang magmaneho. She was used to driving automatic cars dahil mas madaling aralin 'yun kesa sa automatic.

She was used to getting the things she wanted in the easiest way that she can, but now, it's the other way around.

Napatingin siya sa rear-mirror upang tignan ang mga tao sa likod. Nakaunan si Astrid sa binatan niya while Savannah was sleeping on Trevin's shoulder. Sa likod ay nakahiga sa kaliwang bintana si Justice at sa kanan naman si Chandria.

She sighed and blinked as many times as she can when she suddenly felt sleepy. Damn it, wake up, Hennessy.

She then focused on the road and drove slowly. Napatingin siya sa GPS at nakitang 4:36 am na. Muli siyang napabuntong hininga at napatingin sa katabi niya.

With hands crossed beneath his chest, he slept like a man. Pati ba naman sa pagtulog, lalaking lalaki ito.

Hennessy unconsciously smiled and her eyes literally glowed up. She didn't know why but she was smiling the whole time she was driving.
