Two Weeks

The two groups have been on the road for two weeks. They managed to get a couple of cars working and drove all the way down to North Carolina before one ended up breaking down and the other ran out of gas. But now they have managed to walk to South Carolina.

They have managed to escape from Negan's compound thanks to the reckless amount of Walkers that were being led in. A couple of the Walkers managed to take down one of the guards and after that one guard went down more started to go down. The people inside of the fence that were fighting for their lives weren't stupid, was soon as they saw an opening, they went for it.

The fight to get out of Negan's camp was bloodily. They lost people, Ray, a man from Geoff's group went down in a rain of bullets, and a person by the name of Jack as well. Rebekah, from Garrett's group, nobody saw exactly what happened to her but one minute she was there and then the next minute she wasn't, she was assumed to be dead.

In Garrett's group there was just Lucas, Dave, Kenny, Deanna and Doc Stevens. Negan had kept William someplace else and he was now gone. William's fate was unknown.

Garrett and his group traveled south with the man with tattoos.

The man with tattoos, Geoff Ramuser, was the leader of a group of people who fought along side Garrett and his group. Geoff was leading them all to a place that he and his group called home, AH Compound. The only bad thing about was that it was down around Houston, Texas.

"It's safe." Geoff began to tell Garrett. "I wouldn't leave my family where I didn't think it was safe."

Michael and Lindsay Jenkins were both from Geoff's group. Lindsay had red hair that went down to her shoulders and she was pregnant, and quite far along as well, though she wasn't keeping track. Micheal, Lindsay's boyfriend, wore glasses and had curly brown hair. He and Lindsay seemed to stick with each other but the thing about Micheal was that he seemed to have a temper.

Gavin Fairfax was also from Geoff's group. He had a british accent and once prided himself of being from Lord Fairfax of Cameron's blood line. But none of that seemed to matter anymore. He was born in Great Britain but moved to America and began to work there and started living here.

The last one of Geoff's group was a man named Ryan Waywood. The man still carried in wallet in his back pocket with a picture of his wife and two children. He explained that he only had one child left now, and that his other child and his wife had died when the shit first hit the fan.

With the sun high in the sky the group walked slowly down a road, low on supplies, low on weapons and low on weapons. Everyone's skin was glistening. This was Garrett's first summer in South Carolina and he wasn't sure if he could stand the sweltering heat of summer. Although Geoff seemed to be thriving in it. Garrett knew it would be better for everyone's survival to leave the Pittsburgh area because the thought of winter sent chills down everyone's backs. But this weather made it difficult to breathe.

As the walked they pasted a sign Charleston 30 Miles.

As they rounded a bend cars littered the street. Empty husks. The cars were dilapidated and rusting, many were sun parched thanks to the southern sun. The traffic snaked up the hill, two lines of steel and tire, each were once capable of reselling for an easy $20,000, but that was three years ago.

"We should stay away from Charleston." Dave said quietly towards Garrett who didn't even acknowledge him.

David Leagues got into Garrett's head. He was scared. Clayton and Davie died, but for what? Just for Leagues to prove a point? Well, the point was clear to Garrett. His own group rarely spoke to him since the death of their two friends. They blamed him and he blamed himself.

Ever since Garrett was placed in that situation by David Leagues everything was different. He didn't make the decisions for the group anymore, he left that to Geoff. Geoff was a capably leader and he was not. He would often think of his best friend, Mitchel, who would often pop into his head. What if Mitchel was still alive? Would things be different? Who would still be alive?

One question though remained in his head though, what if he would have died long ago?

"Everyone stay within ear range, pick a buddy and start going through these cars. We will see if we can find anything useful." Geoff commanded from the front of the group.

Garrett glanced over at Lucas, she didn't even look at him as she and Doc Stevens went a little further ahead.

Dave stood behind Garrett, wondering what he was thinking, but he had a pretty good idea what was on his mind. "I guess it's you and me......Come on, let's get this one." Dave said motioning to one of the vehicles.

The car they were checking out was an older model Ford Escape, maybe 2005 or 2006. All but one of the tires were flat, a couple bullet holes pierced the sun faded paint and all of the windows were broken.

"It's not your fault that we are in this position." Dave said opening the passenger side door. Garrett said nothing as he went through the back seats, looking for something, anything. "Once you start blaming yourself for other people's deaths.....its all over."

He's heard that before, in movies and tv shows before the world went to shit. He never thought it would mean anything to him, until now. He was responsible. Was it possibly that he was even responsible for more deaths other than just Clayton and Davie?

He thought about the quiet kid, the one that was always afraid, Adam. He was killed when they escaped through the back of the RV on the farm. Adam was over taken, but Garrett came out clean.

He thought about Connor, not alive, but dead. He couldn't picture Connor alive anymore. All he could picture was his body lying limp on the ground with a gold coin sized hole in his neck and a slit through his forehead.

Lilly, he cut her arm off right at her elbow to try to save her due to a bite that she had received but the infection took her anyways.

Not ever knowing what really happened to the hot headed ex-marine Dylan haunted his conscious as well, but not as much as Mitchel did. Mitchel haunted his very core as a human being. Not being able to see his death or even being able to try and stop it tore at Garrett's soul.

The feeling is strange; yet too familiar to be strange. He never knew how to define it. He wanted to have the same hopes as everyone us, that they were all going to make it and that they were going to live happily ever after. But watching his friends get massacred crushed the dreams to pieces. The brightness inside of him is gulped by something dark. No, he would be wrong to say it is dark, it is empty, nothing else.

"Listen." Dave said as he climbed in the back seat next to Garrett. "We lose people now, that's what happens, that is what always has happened. People die, more so in this way of life. We have to be ready for it, even if we aren't."

"I don't want to be here anymore Dave." Garrett said shallowly.

"You've given up?" Dave quesitoned. "So there is nothing left to live for?" He paused, he seemed to be trying to control himself from saying something outrageous. "Well, I don't give a damn what you want." He looked at Garrett with tears in his eyes. "So you think you can just give up on us? On everyone?" He wiped his eyes. "You are wrong, if you don't want to live for you, then survive for the rest of us and don't be so damned selfish."

Dave then got out and slammed the door. Garrett was in shock, Dave rarely shows his anger.

Garrett stayed in the car, it seemed like forever til he heard another voice, "Garrett? You alright?" It was Geoff, with Ryan close behind him.

He seemed a little surprised that he was being talked too. "Yeah, I'm fine." He lied under his breath.

"There a reason you are alone?" Geoff asked, getting no response. He let out a quiet sigh before speaking again. "Ryan, go on ahead, me and Garrett will catch up."

Ryan shook his head in acknowledgement. "Don't be too long though, we aren't familiar with this area." Then he went forward to catch up with the others.

"I get it......" Geoff began to say, but then he was caught off by gun shots, three to be exact.
